What a wonderful little restaurant! The server was extremely friendly, and the food arrived quickly at a reasonable price. The hummus borscht was absolutely amazing! View all feedback.
What Kristoffer Huel doesn't like about Aunty Maria’s Mennonite:
Ok, the food was great but there service was not! Haha. Our server could barely speak English. He was a very nice older gentleman. He was not understanding what we ordered and I told the person I was with its was going to be wrong! And to my surprise only a couple of things were wrong! Got chicken strips for my son, the server brings a chicken salad sandwich! Haha. Asked for apple juice and got orange! I got the beef... View all feedback.
I really wanted to like this place. It looked interesting and I planned to go to it for a while. But ultimately it was kinda disappointing. I had the lunch special (pictured, with my wife's slice of toast) and had multiple nitpicks with it. The cabbage rolls are mostly rice (feels like they cheaped out on the meat), the sausage is especially dry, and the salad does not come with enough dressing. The borscht was excellent, however. The perogies were good, but nothing particularly special (and certainly not matching the homemade ones I've made). Service was kinda slow considering how relatively quiet the restaurant was while we were there (although there only seemed to be one customer facing employee).
Went here expecting a traditional Mennonite experience, but while this restaurant most likely used to be exactly that, it no longer is under its current owners. I will say their borscht was very good, but their main dishes were subpar. The pierogi/vereniki were not homemade and were very obviously store-bought, same with the kielke noodles, which were actually just spaghetti. There were no other customers there when we went in and the atmosphere was dead. They also had their teenage son making the food in the kitchen and had trouble speaking English which led to confusion when they brought us extra drinks that we did not order. They seem to offer Chinese food as well which they are proud of so my suggestion is if you want to check this place out, don't expect a traditional Mennonite experience, but get the borscht and try their Chinese food.

So I’m giving this place two stars because... 1. Me and my friend decided to stop in and have a breakfast because when we were younger we went there. So we get seated and the waiter comes to our table and asks what we want; we explain to him what we want. He then try’s explaining to us what he thinks he understands and then all of a sudden pulls out a English translation speaker to understand what we’re saying. So we order and me and my friend were like okay he’s just learning and giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. Well we get the meal and it was allllll wrong, not once but twice. So we chalk it up to him learning and what not. 2. Second time we decided to go again a few months later, and still the same but not only did he not understand anything twice but three times. Don’t get me wrong, everyone starts somewhere, but if your dealing with customers and money and orders there should be someone to explain to him the menu so he isn’t going back and forth asking the cook questions. My daughter asked for orange juice and he has no idea, he went to the cook and then they told him. It was VERY frustrating trying to explain and then have to talk into a translator recorder everything we needed or had to say to him. He did however not charge us for the meals but, maybe this is a heads up to have someone work with him. I felt bad for him because he is learning, but English is important when working in the customer service Industry!
I Do not recommend ordering from this place. Family and I thought we would have a nice dinner after driving 7 hours to get to Saskatoon. Food was burnt and cold and disgusting to say the least. Save your money and go to McDonalds.
