Classic L.A. Mexican food. El Cholo has been a favorite for years and I've been there dozens of times for working lunches, friendly get togethers and family dinners. The food is consistently good and never disappointing. If I ever had to complain about anything, it would be the crowds of people trying to get in but that's usually what happens when something is good. View all feedback.
What Gustavo Garcia doesn't like about El Cholo:
I want to start by highlighting the service, which was the only positive aspect of our visit. The staff were very friendly and attentive. However, it had been a while since my last visit, and I noticed a decline in the restaurant’s quality. There was an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of sewage and mildew. While our service was quick and we were in and out in no time, the food did not live up to my memories of it. The... View all feedback.
Great fajitas and the retried beans are out of this world. The house margarita tasted like mix. Great service.
Great all around! There was 5 of us with no knowledge of the area and found El Cholo through urbanspoon. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and fast. No complaints here. The valets even shifted a few cars around to accomodate our 40 foot bus!

I have eaten El Cholo's for decades. The number 1 is addictive as is the salsa and guacamolle. Try the Burrito Dorado. I LOVE this place!!! Great service and super place to host a gathering!
I only had the veggie stuff here because I was with a vegetarian. Had chile relleno, Corn tamale, cheese enchilada. They were all really good especially considering there was no meat. The guac was a little disappointing but the margarita was potent enough to make up for it. Great spot to sit but the only valet thing is a bit off putting. Favourite thing was probably the corn tamale dipped in the mole that was on the plate.
