Calaca Ice - San Miguel de Allende

Fantastic experimental ice cream shop. The owner has created fantastic combinations of savory and sweet flavors combined with unusual liquors and other complimentary liquids. After a couple sample tastes offered, I ended up on two amazing flavors. But it was so good, I ended up buying a third scoop. Totally recommend this shop!

If you love ice cream, visiting Calaca Ice is a must! Billing itself as an "Adult" ice cream store, you won't be disappointed by these handmade unusual and delicious concoctions, most made with various alcoholic spirits and liquers. I tried the "(I can't get no) Satisfaction," a rich vanilla ice cream base with Oreo Cookies, Baileys, Coffee Liqueur and Vodka. Wow! Also "Frankenstein," pistachio and cognanc... oh my! Since there are so many yummy combinations, I'll just have to visit again and again. Owner Jorge Garay is a friendly and interesting man of many stories and happy to give you samples before ordering. It's on the main street of Zacateros (#9) but not obvious except for a temporary sign saying "Helados" (ice cream). Since it's only been open a month, it's not all put-together yet in terms of decor and signage, but don't let that stop you! Go and give your taste buds a real treat!

I stumbled upon this gem one day whilst wandering the streets of San Miguel De Allende. The owner was so kind and spoke excellent English. He showed me all the flavours and let me try quite a few too! He's knowledgeable and passionate and it made for a memorable visit. This ice cream is of course, exceptional!
