We tried the Suya shells, plantains, and a suya burger with fries, and everything was fantastic! The plantains were particularly delicious! The staff was very friendly, and they had a special menu for their soft opening. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Veg On The Edge:
I was extremely disappointed with my experience. The sauce we ordered for our Cassava fritters (which we paid extra for) had mold on it. The Obé Ata soup didn’t resemble the picture on the menu at all and lacked visible tomatoes or paprika. While the staff did replace the moldy sauce and refunded us for the soup, I still can’t shake the concern about the freshness of the food after this experience. Although what we d... We have the Suya bowl, Plantains and suya over Burger with Fritten. Everything amazing! Especially the Plantains! The staff was really friendly and they had a soft opening menu!
Located in the SLO Public Market, this little stand offers a punch of interesting flavors. We got their pumpkin seed stew with sausage (a Beyond pattie- will probably skip next time), shiitake suya bowl and cassava fries. The fries come with a delicious green thick dipping sauce. Not sure what it is but it was delicious! Like another reviewer said, the fries are steak cut and very satisfying. The pumpkin seed stew is nice and thick, reminds me of a tofu scramble almost. They’re also pretty generous with their rice so that’s always nice. The shiitake suya bowl was slightly sweet, gave me more of an Asian vibe than African. I definitely would return to try the peanut stew and maybe one of the other spicier ones. Parking is easy but SLO public market can be easy to miss. Also check out the chocolate place next door with tons of vegan truffle options!
Great food and service in a nice environment with lots of indoor and outdoor seating
They just opened, so it's still a limited menu, but it's all good...and very different than the usual restaurant vegan fare. The peanut stew is amazing. So is the shiitake bowl. Today I had the tacos, and they were substantial, yummy, filled with lots of fresh veggies. They are super friendly and helpful. And the new SLO Public Market is a great space with plenty of outdoor seating. You can always grab some vegan chocolate for dessert right next door at Mama Ganache!
Got the pumpkin seed stew and the cassava fries. The fries came with a delicious dipping sauce and were so tasty that for a second I thought, “who needs potatoes?!” The stew was incredible. So flavorful and comforting- like a home cooked meal. They are located in a public market space, which I love. Lots to check out (vegan truffles in the space next door) and ample outdoor seating for proper distancing. The lovely person who helped us and made our food was the most kind and welcoming individual. They also gave us a little pronunciation lesson. Do yourself a favor and go eat here!!
