Spacious restaurant with indoor outdoor options beautifully located in the corner of Santana Row. Lot of mock tails and vegetarian options available. The service is friendly but a bit slow. View all feedback.
What George Rich doesn't like about Zazil Cocina Mexicana:
I met up with friends at this restaurant on a Saturday night. The Guacamole and chips were good, but the Mariscos and Enchiladas were bland. I have been to El Jardin next door, and it was better, even though both restaurants have the same owner with different menus (which seems to be a trend on Santana Row). My food was delivered after my husband and son had already finished eating, which I could understand if that was the only issue during our visit. However, we also ran out of water before our food arrived, and our server never refilled our glasses. I ordered fajitas to share with my daughter, but we were not given any plates. Despite trying to get our server's attention multiple times, we were ignored. Eventually, I flagged down another waitress who provided us with plates and water. Despite the issues, I still left a tip. However, I felt uncomfortable when the waitress hovered over my shoulder as I paid, which seemed overly intrusive.
I had dinner at Zazil restaurant tonight, and it was a rather disappointing experience. It appeared that everything on their menu had been overly grilled, leaving the flavors completely destroyed. The dishes I ordered were affected by this excessive grilling, making it impossible to taste their original flavors. The shrimp was overcooked and the fillet was tough. I recommend avoiding this place to avoid a big disappointment. On a slightly positive note, the chips and cocktails were decent, but not exceptional.

I'm not sure if it's because the Santana Row crowd are bad tippers, but I find it a bit deceitful that they don't just include the actual prices on the menu.
I've visited Zazil twice. The fish tacos are good. The salad is just ok. It's nice having guacamole made table side, but aside from that it was nothing special. Loved the live music and ambiance in general. Very expensive but it's to be expected for the location.
