Best Cioppino I have ever had. Great atmosphere. Pager while waiting (Friday night) worked the whole block. Able to grab a drink at a local while waiting. Recommend the bar seating. View all feedback.
What Damkoh doesn't like about Sotto Mare Oysteria Seafood:
If you want to be squeezed on a small table with a lot of noise and a crowded place, this could be the place for you. Not for us, food is good but not great. The Cioppino experience was good but not the best during our 2 weeks+ trip in California. View all feedback.
For the main course, we ordered the cioppino, which was packed with seafood like mussels, crab, shrimp, and scallops in a tomato-based sauce with pasta. The flavor was pleasant, but I found myself wishing it was a bit spicier. Then again, I haven’t tried many other cioppinos, so this might be typical. The service was very friendly. At first, the waiter came off a bit rough, but I think he was just trying to be funny. The staff was attentive throughout our meal. Overall, while the food and service were fine, there are so many other restaurants in San Francisco that I’d prefer to explore. Perhaps after trying a few more cioppinos, I’ll have a better frame of reference to compare this one.
You'll receive a generous portion of pasta that's more than enough for one person. I ordered the linguine seafood pasta, and every bite features shrimp, octopus, and clams. It tends to get quite busy, so be sure to make a reservation! The seating inside is quite close together, which can make the atmosphere feel a bit chaotic when the restaurant is full. If you enjoy a lively and noisy dining experience, this spot is perfect for you to soak up that vibrant energy!
I enjoy sitting outside and people-watching on a sunny day while sipping on a Pinot Grigio. The interior has an old-school vibe, reminiscent of classic San Francisco seafood restaurants. I always have a fantastic experience here—the food is excellent, and the service is both friendly and efficient. This time, we had oysters, crab cocktail, and what might just be the best cioppino around.
We celebrated our son's birthday here for dinner, and it was a fantastic experience. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious options, and the friendly staff provided excellent service. The seafood was outstanding!
The oysters are the best in town! The pastas are amazing as well. Would love to try more dishes when I'm in town again. There is a long wait but you get a buzzer to walk around with until your table is ready.Food: 5/5
