This is a tried and true go-to for my boyfriend and I when we are looking for a delicious place to eat in West Portal. Yummy Mexican food that is really reasonably priced. They bring you house made tortilla chips and house made roasted salsa. Both fresh and delicious. The salsa is spicy HOT, so be careful. It's not for the faint of heart. The entree portions are huge. What Ali Reichert doesn't like about El Toreador Fonda:
I haven't been here for over 20 years. Mexican dishes are not my favorite dinner, but my spouse loves it. So we tried it again and I have to admit it was good with big portions. The service was also good at very low prices. You cannot beat the decor with so many funny items to improve your food. It was a fun evening and we returned soon The Negra Modelo design beer was a perfect addition. View all feedback.

We had gone to El Toreador for over 15 years, but unfortunately decided to stop. It's funny to see the trend of reviews here last year...
Good food, but they are really bad with water service. What is up with that?! I mean really! I need water! The lack of refilling my water glass brings down the quality of this place significantly, because I asked several times before they refill it. Without refreshing water, I cannot even eat the food, so I sit there waiting. That is very poor service. 3 times now. This time I got enough water had attentive service. I was happy

Lastly, it can get busy here, especially at dinner time. There may be a wait, but it's definitely worth it.
They were here several times and always enjoy the food. This time the green chicken enchiladas were delicious!
