This charming little restaurant is hidden in the Mission district. They offer a menu of Japanese dishes with a modern twist. I tried the Katsu Curry Rice and the Mentaiko Pasta. The Katsu Curry Rice was decent - a standard curry with tonkatsu, but the Mentaiko Pasta was outstanding. The pasta was perfectly cooked and topped with a rich, buttery cod roe sauce with a hint of freshness from shiso leaves. The wait time o... View all feedback.
Food is incredibly delicious! I went more than once. Tried the chicken caraage, chicken catsu curry and shrimp catsu curry and not disappointed by everyone! One of the best Japanese food places in SF! Portions are extremely fillable and prices are reasonable. Friendly staff and fast service. Definitely one of my favorite spots
Beautiful interior with equally good food! Got the Mentaiko Spaghetti, Katsu Curry and Karaage! The best was definitely the spaghetti. Katsu Curry was good, but similar to others I had in SF. Also the tart got as a dessert that was not too sweet asian compliment! but overpriced $12.50 for a small piece. Otherwise the vibe and the food loved!
Bon Yayayyy! Super cozy, amazing domestic Japanese meal! Of course great service. Gyudon (Riff über Reis) was my Fav!
Bon Nene is a must for me back! Food is tasteful, colorful and well portioned. We ordered the goat cheese Salat, Tonkatsu Curry and Gyudon (kept), as well as the royal dairy tea and the Edomachi beer. Our check came so sweet for every guest with a free chocolate pocky stick!
Conflicting dining experience when compared to reviews and photos posted. Firstly, their small menu led us to the impression that they focus on what they do best, cutting the choice dilemma out of the equation. This promising sign took a turn when the food arrived close to an hour after placing our order. Looking nothing like the dazzling photos I've seen featured by other review writers, I was disappointed not just by the presentation but also by the long wait. The garnish was chopped haphazardly, splashed on there with little care. The smear glob of wasabi was as if it was an afterthought. Stringy maguro over rice was certainly not a choice cut. Although crisp, the katsu was half sunken in the sauce, and the accompanying egg was overcooked. A sad, pathetic broccoli floret tucked next to the rice clump like it was ashamed to be in the bowl. The binding element of this dish was lackluster. It was reminiscent of store-bought S&B curry cubes. I cannot vouch for the taste of this curry. The gyoza was insipid without the vinaigrette dipping sauce. However, the crunch of the starch crisp encircling the dumplings was a nice touch. A far cry from a supposedly proud Japanese establishment. The attention to detail and craft did not come through. The hour wait was not worth my valuable time. It saddens me that my experience did not live up to the claims of others who have dinned here. The food was baseline average and not a sensational five stars any means. Being seated outdoors made getting attention from the waiting staff a struggle. At this rate, I refuse to jump to conclusions about a restaurant's lauding claims without digging deeper into contrasting opinions. Reviews like that frustrate me in that they don't serve much purpose outside of getting likes and views My hard-earned money deserves the respect I put into earning it, and so should yours. Overall, an okay attempt but not enough to bring me back.
