Owner went out of her way to help me since I was from out of state and needed a cake for my wife while visiting. The owner is genuinely a good person and runs a good business. Cake was absolutely delicious and fresh. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Go here if you are looking for a good, local bakery. Support family owned businesses! View all feedback.
What Carey Wentworth doesn't like about Whole Cakes Potrero Hill:
Very expensive small cake! Taste good but too expensive for such simple small cake. Their open hours are annoying. Don’t understand they’re selling cakes etc. but closed in Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Will not buy again. View all feedback.
The cake quality is 10/10- they make high end Japanese bakery style cakes that you can also get by the slice. The espresso drinks are perfect— as good as when you order from Four Barrel! The pastries are delicious, my very small complaint is that I just wish they were 20% bigger given how high the prices are. Overall it is a beautiful and well run bakery.
Poor communication. This bakery listed a number of gluten free/vegan options, but failed to clarify that it’s vegan cake is NOT gluten free. As a result I wasted nearly $100 on a cake I cannot share with my partner in her birthday.
Worst customer service ever, wish I could leave a zero star. I reserved cake two days in advance, but when I went to pickup the owner said they sold my cake to someone else. Just kept saying sorry, and refund was the best they could do. They broke the fundamental trust in business, and gave worst customer service.Their smallest cake 6 ' ' is $46. Plenty of other cake options in SF, would recommend b.pattiserie or paris baguette. If you must eat their cake only purchase in store, their online order is meaningless.
Great cake shop in Potrero Hill. They offer a variety of cakes in different sizes and also have smaller baked goods (croissants, ham cheese croissants, muffins, cookies). Good coffee/espresso options as well. It's better to give them a call and order your cake in advanced, but you can likely walk in and get a cake the day-of. However, your options will be more limited and you won't be able to get anything written on it. We had a double chocolate cake which had a very light and airy vanilla frosting. The cake was great and everyone was pleased with the slice that they got. Their breakfast sandwich is also quite fantastic!
My family surprised me with a cake from whole cakes, and it was one of the most delicious cakes I’ve ever eaten!
