I wasn't enamored with the gyros here, even though the gyros are actually quite delicious, so I didn't think too much of the Whole Beast for a long time. !4 for just a burger is ridiculous. I get more meat on a sandwich at subway for 5.
I can't believe that I am the first person to review this place! They are amazing and their food is extremely delicious! The location that I visited was not the one that comes up in search though. The one that I visited was located in The Yard at Mission Rock. Located in Parking Lot A near AT&T Park. It is a cargo container courtyard that is occupied by businesses that also have food trucks that participate in Off the Grid. This one is one of those. I have eaten their food twice now and both times it was top notch. The first time I had their St. Louis style ribs. I was hoping to get more of those when I was there just recently on a sunny Saturday. I was a little sad that they weren't smoking that day so they didn't have the ribs but that forced me to try something else off their menu. I had their lamb burger and it was quite good! The crunchy pickled vegetables along with the succulent burger and their fries! Their Naked Fries were served red hot and crispy with just the right dusting of salt and parsley. Very simple but incredibly delicious.
Holy Gyro Batman! This place rocks! I found The Whole Beast on a list of great cheap eats in SF. They're located in an upscale food court (The Hall) so you can get items (i.e. beer and wine) from other vendors and your meaty goodness from The Whole Beast. Unfortunately The Hall is in between the Civic Center and Powell BART stops so you can either take a Muni bus (meh) right up to the place or at some point (whether you walk the whole distance along Market or you ride BART), you're going to have to walk through the unsavory remnants of old SF. That being said- this gyro exceeded my expectations. It's huge. And so unbelievably flavorful. Cheap Eat? Ehhh, not so much. My lamb gyro, lemonade, tax tip, came to almost 17 bucks. But I recommend this place to everyone who likes meat. Not just lamb even!
The turkey club is amazing really amazing.
