What Daniel Roizen doesn't like about Wonderful Sushi Hillcrest:
I think the best reason to come here is because it 's the only open late and reasonably priced sushi around San Diego The sushi here was very ok , but definitely not great. Too saucey and the sushi temperature was not cold and fresh. Stuff that was supposed to be seared was cooked. The service was also far from great, but I guess it could have been worse. Late lunch/early dinner. Service was solid, food was good. My first roll (snow ball roll) was good, but a little bland over all. My second roll (tempura spicy roll) was outstanding! Great mix of flavors!
Honestly better than I expected. I'm not really a roll type of guy. Almost exclusively eat nigiri. But their sashimi platter was worth it.
Absolutely phenomenal. I order BIG TIME from this spot. They are open late. Because i order in, i am not influenced by the ambiance or the fake bs, all i focus on is the sweet tender buttery nigiris and rolls. And let me tell you folks, you won’t be disappointed. Have yourself a little udon chicken bowl while you’re at it, a miso if you’re feeling fancy.
Ordered a TJ roll and yakiudon through Grubhub and to be honest, this is probably the worst sushi and noodles I’ve ever had. The TJ roll had tempura shrimp in it that still had the skin on, not just on the shrimp tail. I had to keep picking out pieces of it. Outside of that the sushi is ok but not worth the price. The yakiudon on the other hand… It was sadly irredeemable. The noodles were strangely very VERY sour. I added chicken to mine, but neither the chicken nor the vegetables tasted particularly fresh. Unfortunately I had to throw away my entire takeout box :’
