El Venado Carnes Asadas - San Diego

On our second visit to this restaurant after crossing the border, our family enjoyed delicious food and great service until we received the bill. There were unexpected charges that we were not informed about, such as being charged for a full plate of enchiladas instead of a la carte, and an extra fee for adding nopales to my husband's eggs. Additionally, we were charged a service fee for our party size without prior notice, and the tip was included in the bill without our knowledge, resulting in double tipping. We were also charged extra for using a card instead of cash. Despite inquiring about the high bill and requesting an itemized receipt, we were only given a total due. When speaking to the chef/owner about the charges, we received unfriendly looks from others at the restaurant. Sadly, we will not be returning due to these billing practices, despite enjoying the delicious carne en su jugo.

The best steak ranchero on the planet. Sylvana is an Amazing Chef. The bummer is they regularly dont turn on their sattelite phone , so you cant order to go until they do, which can take hours. Very frusgrating as no other business has a phone that has to be turnee on every day or employees that forgwt to do it.

The food was great! However, the menu pricing is deceitful. My friend and I went and had breakfast and our total based on the listed prices should've been $22, but our bill came back as almost $38. When I asked about the difference in pricing, the waitress stated the posted menu prices is not what they are charging due to inflation. I understand inflation is in issue but transparency is important.

This is definitely a mom n pop place. Very cozy and homey. Customer service was not the best at all. The food was average. It lacked flavor.

Despite its modest appearance, this restaurant is a hidden gem. The service is friendly and the quality of the food is outstanding. The chilaquiles and breakfast burritos were some of the best I have ever had. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable, making this place a must-visit.
