The secret is now out! This Korean restaurant in San Diego is truly one of the best. It's a no-frills, authentic mom-and-pop establishment. The lunch specials are still a fantastic deal. The banchan (small side dishes that come with the entree) are decent. It's best to go with a few people so you can share multiple plates. View all feedback.
What Gerardo Garcia doesn't like about Chon Ju Jip:
I had this dish for lunch at work and it was the ideal meal. It was not too heavy but packed with delicious flavors. I wish I could be hungry again so I could enjoy it once more. View all feedback.
All meals come with banchan aka small Korean side like spicy gurks, soybeans, fish cake, spiced spinat, etc. I have the marinated sharp pork plate. meat was tender and tasteful. I thought I wouldn't like the beans in the rice, but it was good and made the meal more satisfied. Pedestal water is served as a water-sustaining, refreshing. great service, waitresses always came to check if we were in order. definitiw a short waiting period during the main meal, even on a weekday. the little hole in the wall restaurant. defend yourself again!
Got food poisoning from this place eating here today and the service was poor. They even charged 1.50 for a to go container. Will not be coming back.
This Korean place was great! We enjoy the barley/corn tea that they gave out. The galbitang soup was delicious and satisfying. The tofu soup with veggies was good. The best thing about Korean food is the side appetizer dishes they place out along with your entrees. There was so many to eat from. Probably 8 little side dishes of different kimchi to enjoy. The staff here is very friendly. This place is a small hole in the wall with great Korean dishes to choose from. Definitely coming back for more.
I, unfortunately, did not have a good experience eating here and was really looking forward to it since all the reviews were so good : . I came here with a few friends on a weekday to grab dinner and I really wanted kimchi jiggae. I ordered kimchi jiggae while my friends ordered one with beef. I barely got any meat and most of the meat that I did get was pork. Most of the stew was just kimchi ; ;. However, service was extremely nice! The inside of the restaurant is small and can't seat many people. If you have a large group of people, I would not recommend going here.
Chon Ju Jip is a small restaurant that remind me of my grandma's cooking. Its run by a group of Korean ladies. They are prepping vegetables at the table and watching Korean drama while serving their customers. It's authentic Korean food that is flavorful and hits the spot. Don't expect anything fancy but your stomach will leave happy. We got their tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes with ramen) and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup). The portions were good and the food was cooked to perfection. My only issue was their side dishes were on the salty side. Otherwise I would definitely come back to try more options! Note: the restaurant is small with about 8 tables. Not ideal for large parties. They are part of a large complex with other restaurants so parking can be tricky during busy lunch and dinner hours. You may need to find street parking.
