Walia Ethiopian Cuisine - San Andreas
Walia Ethiopian Cuisine
Description
Walia Ethiopian Restaurant offers a mixed experience for diners. While many praise the flavorful dishes and generous portions, especially the beloved Chicken Tibs and unique Quanta Fir, others express dissatisfaction with recent changes in recipe and service. Notably, the switch from tender drumsticks to less appealing chicken cubes in Doro Wot has disappointed loyal customers. Service can range from prompt to frustratingly slow, impacting overall enjoyment. Nonetheless, the inviting atmosphere and the outstanding freshness of ingredients, particularly the injera, remind patrons of the restaurant's potential to shine. For Ethiopian food lovers, it remains a worthwhile destination with some consistency issues.

This restaurant is not worth the time and effort to visit. They lack even the basic courtesy of timely service. It is frustrating to wait for your order for an excessive amount of time.
I ordered the veggie platter for $18. Despite my love for meat, I was really impressed with the food here. It was incredibly flavorful. The portion was generous and could easily feed two people.
Best Ethiopian restaurant in Bay Area probably. Here the vegetarian options are as delicious as their non vegetarian ones. Price is reasonable. It’s not a very big place and they only do walk-ins, no reservations. Definitely recommend. Lentil sambusa was good, but I wish they had chicken ones at the time we visited. The platter accommodates all spice levels. You may wanna check with the staff if you want to avoid any spicy ones. Mushroom dish aka ‘ingudai tibs’ stood out. Overall all the items were very flavorful. They keep the bread /injera coming- all you need is ask. Even the Ethiopian spiced tea was great. If you like dessert wines, you may want to try their honey wine. It was good too. It has GF and veg friendly options. Note: You will need to use your hands to eat and they give you wet paper towels in the end.
I have visited this restaurant multiple times and have always been impressed by the excellent food quality and customer service. There is a variety of options for vegetarians and meat eaters, with gluten-free options also available. Parking can be a challenge at times, but it is worth it. Joseph has been our waiter on most of my visits, and his upbeat energy and kindness contribute to the positive atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant!
