Pazzo - San Andreas
Pazzo
Description
Rumi is a hidden gem that offers pure and well-seasoned food in a variety of choices. The tapas-style plates are perfect for trying a few different dishes, while the dinner options are also wonderful. The ambiance is great for dates or meetups with friends, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The standout dishes include the Gnocchi, tomato box pizza, and the Clam pizza. While the pizza may not be the best in town, the New Haven style pizza is a clear winner. The menu changes frequently, and the service is usually excellent. Overall, Rumi is a must-visit restaurant on the Peninsula, with delicious food, reasonable prices, and easy parking. Whether you're looking for a quiet birthday dinner or a fun date night spot, Rumi has something for everyone.

We have been going to Pazzo since they opened and have loved it. Favorites for us are the Linguine with Prawns and Cannellini beans, oh so tasty. The Sausage Pizza is also excellent. The specials are usually pretty great. The Lasagna they have on specialis so spectacular, but I've only seen it a couple of times. ; @Pazzo. We had a special Pizza the other night with dry farmtomatoes and zucchini that we were talking about for a week after, so tasty. We got worried last year when half the time thepasta was coming out completely flavorless, but that issue seems to have been resolved as we have had nothing but excellentquality for the last 6 months. We go about twice a month. My only complaint is that we very much miss dining in. They switchedto takeout only during Covid, but are one of the last to not invite people back in to dine. One of the huge selling features ofPazzo is their great restaurant, Cozy and homey with big wood fired pizza oven, wobbly wood tables and windows that open on toLaurel. It is without a doubt the most welcoming place in San Carlos in my humble opinion. We quite often ran into neighborsthere. I'm hoping plans are in the works to open back up and get this San Carlos intuition back to its full potential!
We had the gnocchi, tomato box pizza and the clam pizza. Pizza crust was nice and a combination of chewy and flaky. The pizzas themselves were all right nothing to write home about. This is take out only, so if you want to eat the pizza right off theoven, you will just have to stand in front and have your pizza. Overall better than mediocre pizza, but probably won't be back.
I grew up in New Haven, Connecticut and am wild about New Haven pizza. They even serve Foxon Park soda at Pazzo--another New Haven staple. I was thrilled when I first heard that the restaurant was opening in San Carlos--even if I'm up in San Francisco. Pazzo's is the real deal. I've only gotten there once before today (and needed to reheat the pizza by the time I got home),but oh is the trip worth it!
Forget the salad, cauliflower or desert (tiramisu was very moist)...the star here is the SUPERB New Haven style pizza, upgrading to 5 stars. Thought I was back at Pepes for a minute when I tasted it. Well worth the trip here just for the fennel sausagepizza.
Pazzo makes a really good pie in the New Haven apizza style. If you're a transplant from the CT shoreline like me, it will get you through between trips back home. I recommend eating in as they do not hold up well sitting in a box. Occasionally, the crust is a little too thin, but after eating about 50 of these, I can say this is pretty rare. I've had every pizza on the menu, and they are all good. The plain tomato pie is really tasty and so is anything with classic toppings like pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, etc. I love a white clam pie, and while it's pretty good here, sadly, it's no substitute for the real thing. Atmosphere is nice. I prefer to sit at the counter by the oven and watch the magic happen. Staff is always friendly. My only complaint is that they only serve one size, and it's small, which detracts from the overall pizza experience. Each slice is like a miniature sample, 3-4 bites, NEXT!
