The ambience and music are good, but the service can be lacking at times. The menu is somewhat limiting but they change it regularly. The cheese board and bone marrow are standout items worth trying. The restaurant is a great place to spend an evening with friends and loved ones, with decent food and drink options. Overall, Pausa is a solid choice in the foodie town of downtown San Mateo.
I went for my birthday, and it was a wonderful experience to introduce my family to fresh pasta and Italian bread. I loved especially how the service attended us—not rushing, not over or under attentive.
That was for a long overdue date night for me and mean man. we sat at the bar that always makes fun. Overall, pausa consistently offers great cocktails and eat with the additional advantage that you do not have to drive into the city (sf).
Best selection of sausage and cheese in bay area! service is also incredible. had the duck and sausage the duck was divine, but I had not the duck/pork sausage. love that the menu changes with the season and looks forward to my next trip to try something new.
