What Paul Davis doesn't like about Dark Horse Coffee Roasters:
They only serve americanos in 12oz, which I guess is good because it saved me from buying 4 more ozs of bad coffee. Servers seemed apathetic, like they needed caffeine, but they probably don't like the coffee either. View all feedback.
Great coffee, wonderful service, everyone always seems happy to be there and they always make the extra effort to show they appreciate the business

We arrived near closing time, so I was unable to see if they have vegan pastries at this location but I have had their drinks at other locations and enjoyed them! Note: the cones were labeled vegan, but I am now concerned they may not be… make sure you verify before ordering. Updated from previous review on 2023 11 14
Stepping into Dark Horse coffee shop is like entering a realm of charming eccentricity. With a cute interior, friendly staff, interesting drinks, and decent pricing, this cafe has a lot to offer. While certain aspects shine, a few downsides, such as parking woes and the flavor profile of a particular drink, need consideration.SERVICE INTERIORThe allure of Dark Horse lies in its quirky interior that exudes a distinct charm. The cozy ambiance and unique decor make it a delightful place to relax. The friendly staff add to the welcoming atmosphere, ensuring a positive and enjoyable visit.PRICE One of the standout features of this coffee shop is its reasonable pricing. Despite its trendy vibe, Dark Horse manages to keep its prices decent, making it accessible to a wide range of patrons. The selection of drinks is also worth mentioning, as it features a variety of options that pique curiosity.PARKINGOne significant drawback is the parking situation. The location in North Park presents challenges when it comes to finding a parking spot, which can be frustrating for customers.FLAVOR The nitro coffee, while decent, leans towards the sour side, which might not appeal to all palates. My friends have also agreed that the unique flavor of this coffee did not appeal to them. Though the cafe's popularity might be evident, you find yourself questioning whether it truly lives up to the hype. The experience leaves you with a sense of curiosity, as the flavor of the nitro coffee might not have met your expectations. However, it's important to note that the full range of Dark Horse's offerings might warrant another visit to truly grasp its appeal.
Review applies to coffee and ice cream only, separate occasions.Had “The Champ” latte, their cinnamon/honey latte, which was wonderfully balanced and even better than expected. Not sure if they do latte art in drinks that are not to go or if they even offer sit down coffees, but the taste and texture of the latte was a strong 9/10.The ice cream is also delicious, albeit nearly the same price as a good gelato shop around here $8/two scoops is a bit steep for ice cream). All the flavors I’ve had were great. The atmosphere is rather lacking very limited seating and sort of ramshackle in its decor and layout. Not really on par with the high quality third wave coffee they’re serving.Service was, while friendly, surprisingly slow for coffee. There was only one person getting one drink in front of me and I still waited nearly 10 mins for the latte. Like many businesses here, the staff assumes zero sense of urgency, even in the face of long lines. If you can catch it with a zero or 1 2 person line and plan to take your items to go, the drinks are fantastic and the ice creams are excellent as well. Just don’t expect to enjoy a posh, relaxing and modern coffee shop ambiance along with it.
Dark Horse is the brand that made me love craft coffee, and I've never been let down. Great drinks and a perfectly crafted atmosphere.Vegetarian options: Vegan donuts that are actually tastyKid-friendliness: A well designed store that I wouldn't worry about a kid breaking something. And it's great to have a $3 treat option with the donuts when you're buying coffee, versus other coffees where getting something for you kid means you end up buying a day old croissant for seven dollars.
