The Runhead - Ryton
The Runhead
Description
Nestled in Ryton, The Runheed has garnered a mixed bag of reviews. Diners have praised its meat dishes, particularly the steak and ale pie, noting the attentive staff and inviting atmosphere. However, recent visits reveal a concerning decline in quality, with complaints about underwhelming food options, poor service, and insufficient attention to details, such as not providing steak knives. Some guests enjoyed a pleasant experience with friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere, especially during busy bank holidays, while others were left disappointed by the slim menu and inconsistent food quality. There's potential for a delightful meal, but consistency appears to be key.

The interior is nicely designed and decorated to create lots of different small spaces for a warm and cosy dining experience. During the summer there's plenty of outside space to enjoy the sunshine. The staff are very friendly and make sure you have everything you need and are happy with the food. The food is delicious! Always well cooked and nicely presented. During the day there's plenty of parking for free on site. Price per person: £10–20 Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot
Been here on many occasions. Last visited on a Sunday and had the Sunday roast. Was delicious as their food always is. Always recommended for good quality food and very reasonable price! Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Sunday Roast
Lovely meal with my elder brother and sil. Brought back memories of my brother being sent along for bottles of stout for grandad centuries ago. Food was very tasty and the staff very pleasant . Will visit again
Great steak, absolutely perfect. A great bunch of lads Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
What a fall from grace. Full menu on a single piece of paper, there is no variation or excitment in the selection. Calls itself a grill house offers 1 rump steak with less taste than a flip flop. Waiter didn't even provide steak knives, chips had no potatoe and salad and dressing placed under my steak so it was wet and soggy. Never asked once how our food was or how things were, place was quiet no excuse shameful service. Price per person: £70–80 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
