What Joe doesn't like about The Voujon Oakham:
Well what can I say have been twice to the Angler once for the Sunday roast which was great and then again today. What a difference a day makes as they say ! Ordered food tonight, 2 Rutland burgers, onion rings and salt and pepper squid. Pretty much the whole meal was bad. There was a handful of overcooked hard chips on a metal tray along with what could only be described as the driest burger I've ever eaten. The oni... View all feedback.
Not even going to waste my time writing a full review as the owner doesn’t even respond to comments. Went for an anniversary meal tonight only people in the restaurant. Seated and took 20 minutes to come round with menu and drinks order. No steak or lobster on the menu. Food was average certainly not worth the price. Out of 6 desserts on menu only 2 available . Really poor service and certainly wouldn’t recommend anyone visits.
We have been today for lunch they had ran out of half the menu, the bloke seems like he doesn't care it was empty on a Sunday. The floor was filthy with 2 dogs sitting in the seating area would not recommend anyone going it was shocking very over rated to other reviews.
This is such a wonderful and central stay, it's perfect for a few days in Oakham, it's so quiet which is a bonus for you as other places are to busy and don't offer the quality and price of this restaurant/bar definitely recommend 100 percent
I arrived for a quick lunch alone ordered a chicken supreme and a non alcoholic cider at. 12.15 which arrived immediately but by 12.45 no food at all I was the only person in the place apart from the cook and the barmaid. Draw your own conclusions. I left after paying for my cider and told the barmaid I was going as the meal was taking far too long “ ok “ she said and that was that ! They could not care less. Will not be going back. No wonder pubs are shutting at the rate they are.
I ordered a cauliflower dish which had a harrisa sauce however it was so hot it burned my tongue and I couldn't eat. There was no warning on the menu that it this was an extremely hot dish and there was absolutely no help from the staff. We were given the bill for the meal even though I had only eaten one mouthful and just seen as awkard customers. The manager rightly deducted the cost of the meal I couldn't eat however the night was ruined by the lack of understanding and sympathy from the staff involved
