Macaluso's Italian - Ruston
Macaluso's Italian
Description
Nestled in Tacoma with a Ruston-like polish, this Italian-influenced spot impresses with elegant atmosphere, attentive servers and standout items—notably house bread, Brussels sprouts, octopus, steaks and risottos—making it a favorite for date nights and celebrations. However, experiences vary: expect flaky pacing, occasional long waits, inconsistent pasta and pizza quality, and prices that many diners call steep for what’s served. Portions can be generous or surprisingly small; reservations are recommended and phone takeout is not accepted.

We booked a reservation only a few days out for a party of six, and they could only guarantee two tables of three that might be close together. on the day, they were able to move two tables together. yay! there were some delays in the kitchen, and they were very apologetic and even provided a charcuterie of bread, prosciutto, cheese and tomatoes. when the food arrived, it was amazing, even better than I remembered. the server was attentive and friendly, and the manager was gracious and kind and made us feel welcome. Definitely recommend and will definitely return. Beautiful restaurant and the service is amazing. Cocktails were alright, great wine selection. Was not impressed with the food. Everything we had was under seasoned and bland. I had the Arancini and Risotto, both tasted pretty bland. Aside from the food, ambience and service were great. I would go back to try other things on the menu that sounded really good. The service all around was above average and all staff very professional, our waitress apologized for being mia for a bit while we waited to have our food boxed etc. Wife ate the chicken marsala that she said was rather bland, the vegetables were great. I had the chicken Alfredo, which was the opposite far to salty. $35 for the pasta dish seemed a bit steep for what you get. Brussell sprouts were cooked well. Atmosphere was great, a little tight between spaces and tables behind you but over all good ambiance! Would return for lunch perhaps! Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
