I... read more This is a motel restaurant on the edge of Ruffec and is a must for anyone in the area or those whose trip could do with a welcome break, it is worth stopping. I visited L' Escargot 18 years ago, it was modernized over the years, but still a place to relax and eat. We meet with friends there and know we will enjoy our meal. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Try the next time.

STOP... the Sunday we went, we had the meal, that is a buffet with mixed meat, cheese etc., and the most beautiful seafood buffet that you can help yourself.. including oysters.. it was amazing. Then there is a choice from the menu or plat de jour, then there are cheese, then there is dessert. We paid 17 euros a head for this.. no wonder that the place was packed. We went for 12.30, and you are the best booking, but I would go for lunch as the buffet was pampered, not many oysters at that time. Wonderful meal. Wine/coffee extra, but excellent value for excellent food..

I can recommend the Plat du Jour, which... read more Something off the beaten track, but it is worth finding. L'Escargot offers an excellent lunch at very affordable prices. I can recommend the Plat du Jour, which contains a very comprehensive buffet with mussels, cold meat and a variety of salad items as an appetizer. It follows the actual plate (with a large selection including fish, duck and meat, etc.). Cheese is the next course (you help yourself from the cheese board) followed by homemade dessert. Along with very inexpensive drinks and very friendly service also for people with very poor French like me all for not much more than a sandwich, piece of cake and a coffee in the UK. This is a location that is worth a visit when in the area.
