We'd looked at the big brother Gill earlier and decided that, as they don't do prix fixes for Saturday lunch, we'd leave it. Anyway, that same evening we stumbled across this place, the little brother bistro! It was just what we needed; expertly waited tables; lovely presentation; relaxed enough to have our preteen with us too.We had the menu formule / prix fixe which was great value for a perfect French meal.Everythi... What Luc Lamy doesn't like about Gill Côté Bistro:
We choose it because it was the only one were we got a table on a Saturday night. Small restaurant, seems less glamorous than the ones surrounding, but we were positively surprised by the food. Maybe not delicatessen, but good quality/price relation taking into account the location. Staff very very friendly!! View all feedback.

Gill cote bistro is the affordable side of the number one restaurant in Rouen, Gill, a bit too formal and too pricy for the average visitor. But Gill Bistro is just perfect. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and just about affordable prices, it's the perfect recipe for a great lunch or dinner. Situated on the lovely old Place du Vieux Marche (unfortunately spoiled here and there by huge, unsightly, over-exposed bins!) it makes for an easy place to eat. Now the food! It is absolutely delicious! I took an endives salad as starter, sounds simple but the divine can be in the simple. Then followed by pave de saumon with some fantastic salad or vegetable, not sure which, but tasting heavenly. Then, then the dessert: a magnificent piece of crème caramel, not the mean, sad portion that usually closes your meal, but a substantial perfect, authentic crème caramel I could have every ten minutes if I could. So do I recommend this place? You bet I do. And that was my second visit, the first, in winter, had been with a more wintery risotto, just as delicious.
Nice small modern bistro on the historical Place de Vieux Marche, decor quite minimalist. Service was good and staff friendly. Very good wine list with number of Sancerre wines, food was quite good but our pet hate, cold food & cold plates, had to return my husbands veal escalope to be reheated, I had Steak Tartare which was very well seasoned and enjoyable. Was expecting much more as Gill also has a 2 Michelin star restaurant a few streets away. Will we go there again.......don't know.
Had to try this having eaten at the original Gill a couple of times some 30 years ago... Nice to find somewhere not obviously aimed at tourists in this location. Clean modern decor, very good service. Food good but not overly memorable - I had a delicious salmon dish, but my husband was underwhelmed by a very ordinary steak.
Went there as it is a "name" in the area. Staff and atmosphere were both good and the wine list was a good range and not overly priced. My choice on the day - bavette of beef with new potatoes - just did not do it for me. My wife had a fabulous meal (and no doubt a separate review!) bit i left a little disappointed
