Like others, we just happened upon this bar a vin/ cave a manger which is close to Rouen Cathedral in a little square to the south side of this huge building and close to the Seine. There's a detailed board outside Bacchus and if you're into platters of charcuterie this is the place for you. We shared a regional Normandy selection of cold meats and cheese accompanied by a red proposed by the highly knowledgable owner who speaks good English. It was a delightful experience with a great ambience and reasonably priced. We also had a sharing desert of local, handmade chocolates, cream and strawberries plus two noisettes which topped off a great first night in Rouen. Highly recommended.
We arrived in Rouen a little tired and not yet sure if our bearings. We saw Bacchus from our hotel and decided to give it a go rather than wander trying to find somewhere. It was amazing: choice of beautiful plates of regional charcuterie, explained by a friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable owner (one evening hot plate option also). Fantastic selection of wines and good recommendations. We shared the chocolate dessert, rich and delicious. Would definitely go back but we were only in Rouen for a short break.
Chanced upon this place by accident. It was just across the road from my hotel and I found it while out for a walk. I popped in for a night cap and was amazed by the wonderful selection of wines (by the glass) and the warm and expert welcome. I only wish that I could have stayed longer but an early morning train got in my way. Hope to be back soon.
