A fabulous experience older rooms with older furnishings, but the history and space more than makes up for the lack of updates in the suite in which we stayed. We LOVED having so much room to spread out since we were in town for nearly a week. The breakfast was delicious and the servers were attentive to my needs. The service by every member of the staff was exceptional. When we asked the Concierge to remove the Champagne from our room since we don’t consume alcohol, it was replaced with additional fruit! The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful with the room and also suggestions on their fave places to eat!

I am a Titanium level Marriott Bonvoy member. Booked a room for almost 100,000 points. Arrived at 11:00 a.m. asking for an early check-in. I was told the room was not ready. Understandable. I explored other parts of the city and contacted the hotel hourly. Returned a little before 3:00, and watched several who checked in after me finally receive a room. I asked for the hotel manager to express my displeasure that the room was not ready by check-in (3:00 p.m. . Manager had the audacity to argue that technically check-in wasn’t until 4:00. I had another tour, so unfortunately didn’t have time to utilize the beautiful yet outdated room. Bell staff was wonderful, but the manager and front desk staff seemed to not care that I was put out. Borderline arrogant, and I think they have lost concern for the customer due to a wonderful location (next door to US Embassy and the fact they are typically fully booked. It was a beautiful hotel, but not for 100,000 points for a room that I had for about 10 hours. I will not return and will seek another location where I my stay will hopefully be more appreciated. It certainly wasn’t at the Westin Excelsior.

We are very loyal to Bonvoy when we travel so we have lots to compare this with and we were so very disappointed with our stay here. This Westin is in dire need of an update! We actually moved out early and moved over to the Marriott Flora which is just a couple blocks away. Our room was falling apart. Door handle to the bathroom was hanging on by a thread when we arrived as was one of the handles to the closet. The walls were in such bad shape and the water temperature in the showers went from hot to extreme cold all the time! There were no plugs by the bedside tables for our phones so I had to unplug the lamp. The carpet was so old I was scared to walk barefoot on it. I know it’s an old historical hotel but wow this was so not worth the price! One redeeming factor was the front desk staff. Hopefully it will get its very overdue upgrade soon so it can compete with the other hotels around the area!

We stayed for three nights in early January, and this was our third stay. The Westin Excelsior is our go-to hotel whenever we visit Rome. They treat Bonvoy members exceptionally well, and it always makes our stay in Rome special. We were very happy to see many of the same staff in the breakfast room as last year. The lobby staff were very kind and greeted us warmly every time we entered or left the hotel, always with a smile. In the breakfast room, all the staff worked hard and were attentive and friendly. I felt that the service was even better than last year, which made our stay in Rome especially enjoyable. We travel at least three times a year and have stayed at many high-end hotel brands such as St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Banyan Tree, and Fairmont. This year, the service at The Westin was surprisingly on par with those luxury hotels. The staff all seemed genuinely happy and did their best to provide excellent service. We feel the general manager runs the hotel very well. Housekeeping and turndown service were also outstanding. Overall, we had another wonderful stay in Rome with exceptional service and will definitely return again.
