Maybe ownership has changed since 2013? And maybe staff were having a bad day from the Aug 2017 review? Not sure, but our experience here was very different than other reviewers. My husband and I were out on a walk, came upon this restaurant and decided to stop for lunch. We opted for indoor seating to get off the noisy street. Servers were friendly and attentive. We ate Cacio e pepe and Bucatini all' Amatriciana. Both were tasty and fairly priced.
I'm surprised to hear all the negative feedback. We stopped by yesterday evening to eat some dinner and we really liked the service and food we received. My husband said that the lasagna was the best he's had in Rome and my pork and potatoes were also good. The pork was a little on the tough side, but the flavor was great. Our toddlers had pizza and that was also good. The crust was similar to American pizza. The tiramisu was also great! In total, we paid about 30 something euros for our food and drink. It was a nice little restaurant and we would go back again. :
We drived in to this caffe as it was pouring of rain and of course as a woman of a certain age I desperately need the toilet ! Returning I found my husband had ordered 2 cappuccino, this was ok but the price of €8 each seemed abit steep. As it was 2 o clock we decided to stay and eat a lite lunch , we ordered two small salads, nothing else. There was no bread with the very small mostly lettuce salad . After I went to the lady sat behind the till and asked for the bill. I was stunned to see it was €39.60. YES €39.60 I politely asked could she explain the receipt , €8.50 each for the lettuce sorry salads, €8 each for the cappuccino and 20% SERVICE CHARGE !!!! I am aware you have to pay a services charge if it is on the menu and in all fairness it is but at every other restaurants or caffe we had not been charged and not thought to look. The 'lady ' shrugged. That 's our prices !! The food was over priced without the service charge And the service took 3 mins at most Wish I could get that hourly rate in England ,,
Shocking service do not go here NOT recommended the service was so bad, and that was with just ordering drinks, we all agreed to NOT order any food. really bad
We had been walking around for a while and fancied a sit down and a couple of beers we had the mischance to choose Gran Caffe Leon. We had two beers (large medium) and when we sat down we were given 'free ' nibbles of crisps, nuts, popcorn and toasted stale cake crusts. As we had recently eaten we said we didn 't want them but they were left there anyway a very short time later we were given a toasted ham cheese sandwich and told it was on the house then we were given a very small salad with mozzarella olives. We hadn 't asked for any of the food nor did we want it. We asked for the bill what a shock. The large beer was €15, the medium beer €7(they didn 't do small beer) and the nibbles, which we didn 't ask for or want, were €4.40. My recommendation for Gran Caffe Leon is don 't go there.
