What a wonderful evening ! Away from the big crowds ! Service and Food was excellent- you must try the fish specials ! Enjoy !!!
We dined that Cornucopia restaurant, on Oct 9th 2021. The food was great and the wine was better. We had a late night reservation provided by open table, and we arrived happy with a few glasses of wine on board. I was trustful enough to ask the server to select a bottle of wine for us at his discretion. Naturally, he selected one of their finest barbarescos, Gala. I was delicious! When we received our check, I noticed they charged 575 euros for the bottle. I questioned the higher than expected price, and the server reassured me that it was an exclusive bottle and the price was accurate. Since we were staying in Trastevere, we circled back around for lunch the next day. While reviewing the wine list in day light, it came to our attention that the price of the bottle was 240 euros. I asked the servers and manager where the mistake was made, and they simply told me that the person that served us last night was not available. I understand that we we may look like tourist, but taking us for fools is as unfortunate for us as travelers as it is for them as a restaurant. Beware and be careful.

Our final night in Rome ended with an experience that I will always remember. Because I know people look to reviews for information about food, I will start with that and end with some information about the experience in Rome in 2021–and specifically this wonderful restaurant. The Food: My two best friends and I (three in total) came to this restaurant on our last night in Rome. And we are sure glad we did. The server recommended the house antipasti (a mixture of various seafood dishes). We got this and a liter of their house red wine. The antipasti included a smoked fish, two kinds of octopus salad, anchovies on zucchini, a squid mix, and a few other options. It was essentially a plate full of little tastings. When in Rome, I truly believe its important to let go of our personal cultural tastes and enjoy the meals the way Romans do. This dish gave us a little bit of everything and left us excited for what came next. For our first course, one of us ordered the seafood linguine and two of us shared the seafood risotto. Each were filled with tasty and light flavors that were a nice break from heavy cream based pasta we had been engulfing in. What really made me happy was that they did not make us feel bad for asking to share the risotto, instead, they brought out one portion separated on two plates. This was the moment I felt that these folks really were set to please. Thank you for this. For our second course we got grilled squid, the grilled seafood platter, and the Gil head fish. Both of my friends have never been to Italy and the only understanding of Italian food they have is the Americanized version of it back home. For some, the fresh taste of seafood and the focus on retaining the depth of the seafoods flavor over masking it with countless ingredients is a bit off putting at first. In America, everything seems to be drenched in so many different things to hide the inadequately cooked fish. This restaurant gave my friends the experience I wanted them to have. Each dish was simple yet full of flavor—it was so fresh and you could truly taste it. We were all pleased! The Dessert: The HIGHLIGHT of our time in Rome food wise, was the Tiramisu here. My friend had been craving some and we decided to share one. The owner’s eye lit up when we ordered it and he told us how his sister makes it for the restaurant. He was so proud of their tiramisu and told us we would not regret ordering it—he believed it was the best in Rome and WE AGREE!!!! The fluffy and creamy combination with bits of lady fingers, the perfect balance of sweetness, cream, and coffee… I will never forget that taste. As a Bosnian refugee who grew up in America, we did not have regular birthday cakes, we had tiramisu. I believe I am a pro when it comes to knowing good tiramisu and frankly I don’t know if I have ever had a better tiramisu my entire life. If you come here, DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING THE TIRAMISU!!! The night ended with a free limoncello and a beautiful conversation with the owner. I felt as if I was back home in Bosnia. The care and dedication this family puts in their work, the love for the food and for the people who come to try it, it brought tears to my eyes. I genuinely want more people to come here because this is what Rome is. This experience of family, love, food, and laughter… It is what I was missing from this trip to Italy and Cristian (the owner) and his family made my heart so full. Thank you for the best night in Rome!! — Extra notes about the phenomenal service and dining in Italy in 2021: It is no surprise that Italy, Rome specifically, has changed a ton over the years. I lived in Rome in 2015 and almost every night I was able to wander upon a delicious and fulfilling dinner—especially in the Trastevere area. However, this time around in 2021 it was much more difficult to feel what I felt back in 2015. Ristorante Cornucopia gave me that feeling. We reserved a table online via Fork (Trip Advisor) and were seated inside. The location is walking distance from the bridge and quieter than other places. Automatically, we were greeted by a young man with a joyful attitude. We do no speak much Italian, but we joked with him about other languages we spoke and the laughs did not stop all night. This young man and an older gentleman served us this evening. We came to find out that the older man was in fact the owner of the restaurant. His entire family is involved in the business of their restaurant. We talked about how Covid impacted them and how they have been faring as a result. It made me sit back and be more understanding of the difference in vibes I felt in Rome this time around. I can’t express how wonderful the service at Cornucopia was… It is restaurants like this that fill your soul. We joked and had moments of deep conversations. I even asked the owner, Cristian, if I could record him to post a video of him explaining his tiramisu. Please watch it and visit this location on your next visit to Rome. Tell them Emina from Bosnia/ Seattle Washington, sent you! Hopefully Cristian will be there (he says his whole family works their daily) and do not forget to just sit back and take in the beauty of this restaurant.
