If you leave the windows open in the hope of... read more During a hot week, the rooms facing west are WAY too hot and it is literally impossible to sleep during the night. If you leave the windows open in the hope of catching some fresh air you are in trouble buddy, since you will be attacked by a swarm of thirsty mosquitoes. As a cherry on top of the whole deal, the carpet in my room was also smelling like vomit. Staff wasn't really helpful in this regard. Not even ventilators were offered to the guests. Again, there is absolutely no ventilation in the room or in the floors. I know this week in July was abnormally hot, but a hotel with four stars (wait, let me get some air: HAHA! should at least provide some basic ventilation, anything. Not recommended. Breakfast is pretty alright

Tiles in b... read more Room was big enough and service great. Cleanliness however was not okay. Room was not cleaned and no fresh towels were given. Room was also very old. Tiles in bathroom were chips out off and could simply use a renovation. Toilet did not flush right every time. The sauna was out of order and steampool was not cleaned. Gym had 3 cardio machines and that is pretty much it (also very old and were shaking when on them)

The meal in... read more Handy location not far from Groningen. Bus stops outside hotel . Spacious rooms with balconies. Inexpensive with a satisfactory breakfast included. The meal in the restaurant was very nice. Good sized portions and included plenty of vegetables, which are sadly lacking from so many other restaurants we have been to. I can thoroughly recommend the Grand Desert for two.

However we had to pay a so-called 4-star charge which was dissapointing because the hotel was superbasic. The room and bathroom were very simple. Also we couldn't sleep because the walls were not remotely sound-proof so we heard that our neighbours were having a much better time than us (read: having extremely loud all night). Also some party people across the corridor. I have to say the staff is really friendly and also the area surrounding the hotel is nice. Probably best to ask for a quiet room if you book this hotel if you want some peace.
