I moved from the DMV area about a year ago, but I can’t stop thinking about this place. I absolutely love their drinks and cake. The layered crepe cake, purple sweet potato milk cap, and matcha milk cap are all incredible and so addictive! I even brought them with me on a flight when I was visiting the area, just because they’re that good. I haven’t found anything as delicious in LA! View all feedback.
What J Cha doesn't like about Kyoto Matcha:
The matcha offerings are decent, but on the expensive side. However, I gave a low rating due to a recent experience when I tried their newly promoted 'Ube' ice cream. It didn't taste like ube at all and had a strong freezer-burned aftertaste. I had to stop eating it after just a few bites. I'm not sure how they approved that flavor; maybe they should have consulted someone knowledgeable about ube beforehand. View all feedback.
Awesome matcha place to visit in Rockville area.My personal favorite is their ice cream (they also got Taro ice cream! They also got really nice interior design and unique Japanese food/desserts! I tried them few years ago and it was ok to good for me! Do recommend to give it a try if you are interested :
The cakes were not worth the money. They were ten dollars each and rock solid, so I think they were frozen beforehand. It might've tasted better in the summer though; we had it in the winter. I just think the food was overpriced. It looked better than it tasted. I will say that my friend enjoyed their matcha ice cream and that the drinks were good though. The staff was great and the place looked really pretty.
Really good matcha layered cake, and a nice selection of boba teas and other drinks. Lovely atmosphere, cozy and cute. I liked their way of ordering, a large screen with many options and ways to customize your choices. It actually makes sense just to order from the side with cakes as there you can get everything from both places Koyto and Boba. Vegan options are available, soy/almond/oat milk substitutions in drinks, not sure about food though, matcha cake wasn't vegan but looked so nice that we couldn't resist.
Some of the desserts here are good, but it's pretty hit or miss. The service is good and fast. The ice cream is way overpriced and not very good (7 dollars?! In particular, the ube flavor was pretty awful. It didn't taste much like ube and had an odd aftertaste. We ended up throwing most of it away. The hochicha flavor wasn't bad, but not worth the priceI did like the dream of Sakura, which is a mild jelly with some toppings.
Matcha ice was great and I like that you can taste the ube ice cream for free. Cake also looked fantastic. Prices could be a bit lower.
