Feedback
I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time, but due to a combination of poor planning on my part and the fact that Oar is popular and not very large, my last-minute attempts to get in before were not successful. This time, I made sure to come specifically for Oar, and I am glad I did. Although this restaurant may not have a Michelin star, it definitely deserves one. I started with the high-quality, perfectly spiced tuna tartare, followed by the scallops. For my second main, I ordered the venison. The staff had been clear when I made the booking that they needed the table back by 8, which I appreciated. For dessert, I had the milk chocolate ganache, which was superb. The service was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed two glasses of the house Sauvignon - floral, sharp, and tasty - and two glasses of the house Malbec, which had strong dark berry flavors. I had the muscat for dessert, which some people may find too sweet, but I thought was superb. The Irish coffee was solid but not extraordinary. The restaurant is relatively expensive, but in my opinion, it is amazing and offers good value. I would have loved to try the tasting menu, but it was not available when I dined solo. The staff were kind enough to accommodate me next time I visit. The service was of a high standard, somewhere between casual and formal. The ambiance of Oar, set in a large house, is not my favorite, but it wouldn't deter me from coming back. Next time I visit Doolin, I plan to stay at the homestead cottage and have a second night at Oar. I will inquire when booking about their availability.
We went to Oar for the third time and once again we were extremely impressed. The food is top-notch and Kieran and Roxy continue to provide excellent service. I highly recommend this place!
Just ate here, didn’t stay. Beautiful meal and excellent service. Would definitely come back.
Tucked into the wild poetry of Ireland’s west coast, this Michelin-starred gem in Doolin delivered a dining experience that felt less like a meal and more like a beautifully choreographed love story. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere hummed with quiet elegance, the kind that doesn’t need to announce itself. Then came the venison, and truly, it deserves its own standing ovation. Presented with theatrical grace, it stood poised like a bride beneath a chuppah, a culinary ceremony in full swing. Each bite was rich, tender, and deeply expressive of the land, as though the surrounding hills had whispered their secrets directly into the dish. The asparagus risotto followed, glowing with freshness. It arrived adorned with a delicate bouquet of edible flowers, like spring had decided to dress up for dinner. The flavors were vibrant yet comforting, a perfect balance of earthiness and brightness, each forkful unfolding like a small celebration. Service throughout the evening was flawless. Not stiff or overly formal, but warm, intuitive, and genuinely joyful. The kind of service that anticipates your needs before you even realize them yourself. And then, just when we thought the evening had reached its peak, it offered us one more unforgettable moment. When we asked about arranging a taxi, the owner himself came over, introduced himself with effortless charm, and insisted on driving us. Not just anywhere, but to catch the Irish sunset melting into the Atlantic beside the Cliffs of Moher. It felt like being handed the final, perfect note of a symphony. Some restaurants serve great food. This one creates memories that linger long after the plates are cleared.
The OAR house was the highlight of the trip, from the first point of communication. Kieran was incredibly kind. I proposed to my girlfriend at the cliff of mhor and Kieran even helped me find the best spot, she said yes) it was such a special moment and returning to the oar house for dinner and celebrating was something We will never forget. The oar house was a five star experience! the staff was helpful and so kind the food was the best meal we had ever eaten! The whole meal was so impressive start to finish the creativity is unmatched each bite is somehow better than the next! A class act all around! Will be coming back! What made it special was how much the staff cared!
