We visited this cafe/restaurant with our friends from Australia. It has prime spot on the Market Place, is dog friendly and it had choice of cakes on the display. We chose pot of tea £2.30), cappuccino £2.80), Blackforest cake £4) which was a bit sweeter than I like, treacle tart £3.50) Yorkshire Rarebit £8.95) and Richmond Rarebit £8.95). Our friends had 2x Hot chocolate £6), soup £5.95) and toasted tea cakes £2.95)... View all feedback.
What MarkyL 1961 doesn't like about Cross View Tea Rooms And:
Tried in vain to get a cup of tea and a bit of cake in Richmond but this place had free tables. Soon became apparent why that was. Lady was rude and forgot more than she remembered. Food was average when it did arrive. Nice spot in the centre of Richmond but the food and service does not match their enviable position. View all feedback.
Place was filthy had to ask them to clean table as sticky waitress not interested, tea pot arrived looked as if hadn't seen a dishwasher, milk jug was sent back as filthy. Cutlery was dirty had to wipe them with anti bac myself. Food was OK. Whole place could do with a full deep clean. Won't be returning
My husband and I stopped off for a cup of tea and some cake on a Friday afternoon. The place was empty on arrival but two more tables were filled before we left. The cakes really didn't look appetising, but we ordered one raspberry and one blueberry frangipan. No accompaniments offered (cream or ice cream). The cakes were OK but very dry. We had a cup of tea which was quite nice, but the fact that the crockery and teaspoon were all tea stained and looked dirty was really off putting. In fact, the whole place really didn't seem very clean...the cake cabinet, crumbs on the floor under tables, the serving tray used by the staff! We were charged £12.60, despite the banners outside saying a hot drink and cake was £5 each!! This may have been a genuine error, but unfortunately we didn't question it at the time. We were really disappointed by the experience. I feel that this could be lovely cafe but definitely could use a little TLC, and attention to detail. Nice tablecloths, decorations and a clean flooring would make it feel more warm and welcoming.
This looked like a nice traditional tea room in a good setting. Unfortunately when we went in the waitress demonstrated a unique lack of interest and customer orientation. There was four of us, a number that clearly was too much trouble for us. The place was nearly empty, but we were told there was no room at the table we chose. So we picked another table to be again told there was insufficient room. To be clear, there was plenty of room, but we now understood why the place was empty the waitress just couldn't be bothered. We went elsewhere finding a busy tea room where we were made very welcome!

We all enjoyed our visit to Cross View tea rooms. The service was friendly and the food really tasty and reasonably priced. I had the Richmond Rarebit which was great, lots of black putting on top and the cheesey sauce tasted excellent. Planning to return.
