Frontier By Alamo - Richmond

I went to the Frontier by Alamo, aka Alamo #2, wanting some smoked meats. It was difficult to choose which smoked meats to get, but they had a lot of smoked meat options. I chose the Smoked Brisket Sandwich for 13 pounds, which came with a side. I was told to get the Mac and cheese. I thought the sandwich was filling. There is a lot of potential for the Alamo #2, especially since they have their zoning to stay open until 2 AM they they currently close at midnight. My clothes smelled like smoked meats after I left.

Great service and food. David the bartender was super personable and knowledgeable. The Chile Relleno was superb. The music was off, no speakers in the front of the restaurant so it sounded like we were listening to a BOH boombox from back in the day. The bar area is rustic and cozy. The banquet seating would not be my favorite place to sit but the dining room was welcoming. They have a great happy hour 3-6 and will keep this spot in our neighborhood rotation.

Obviously the food is good. With a legacy like Alamo behind you there shouldn't be any surprise. What I really enjoyed was my interaction with Christian! He really made my lunch time experience top notch. Frontier really found a keeper here! Also the bear brings the room together

Pros: Food tasted wonderful (so good it brought them up to a 2) some of their happy hour specials were great Cons: Unprofessional atmosphere (owner had their child running around and making noise) and poor service, sat ourselves after standing at the front for a couple minutes (owner was distracting bartender at the time so they probably didn't see us come in) Food was not hot when served to me Could see the man preparing food never wore any gloves and did not see him wash hands before handling my food Overall: Solid food and prices, but they clearly have a lot to improve. Want to give them a try in 6 months when they may have had more time to get things together

The BBQ Nachos are a MUST! Loved the coleslaw, cornbread and chicken on the platter. The service was great! James was a great waiter and the bartender made an excellent Dark Stormy! All around great experience. Thanks Juliette????????????
