Contribute FeedbackAmuse offers a unique dining experience with flavorful dishes like juicy mussels and perfectly cooked grouper. While some guests found service lacking, others praised the combination of flavors in dishes like crab cakes with bacon. The ambience of the restaurant was highlighted as outstanding, with a special mention of the view from the VMFA. The Japanese-inspired menu was a hit, with dishes like shrimp main and matcha hot milk cake receiving rave reviews. Overall, despite some service hiccups and noise disruptions, patrons found the experience at Amuse to be fantastic and memorable.
From the first welcome to the last thank you, our experience was fantastic. The venue even printed out special birthday menus and gave us the members discount. We shared several appetizers and one entree for four people and we all were satisfied when we left, with no room for dessert. Going to the museum and finishing the day at Amuse is a wonderful way to experience this gem in Richmond. I wasn 't sure I would like the Japanese inspired menu but it was delicious. Everything was artfully prepared and served.
Generally ok. We’ve eaten here several times. Nice space on 3rd floor.
The prices at Morton's/Hondo's were high, but the food quality was more akin to Ponderosa. The service was excellent, with our waiter Grace being friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks were delicious. However, the food was disappointing considering the premium price. In particular, the wagyu beef was not as flavorful as expected. You can find a better cut at Morton's or Hondo's for a lower price. The fish was too salty and the cornbread was bland.
My husband and I made a reservation at Amuse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We chose this restaurant because we had our wedding reception at the VMFA. However, our romantic dinner was disrupted by loud music coming from a line dancing class happening in the Atrium below. Instead of a relaxing evening, we felt like we were at a nightclub. The restaurant could have reduced the noise by closing the doors, but they didn't. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we ended up leaving quickly.
Amuse at the VMFA is a hidden treasure. The menu is full of innovative dishes that are expertly prepared and served with excellent attention to detail.
