Have visited fisherman's Wharf in Steveston for a few times whenever we were in town but not able to find a place with good food until this time with doing a little bit of research! We have to sacrifice the sea view for food good, and it paid off. We sat outside in front of the restaurant where most people did, and there was a live band. Mussels were extraordinary and it came with very nice fries! Mussels were so big... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The New Well Tavern:
Dropped in for a beer and snacks on a hot Saturday afternoon. Disappointed to find a place calling itself a tavern with only e beer on tap, and two had run out! Wanted some snacks to share but nothing was suitable (ie three items on a dish). Also expensive food for what it was . View all feedback.
I tried the mussels and they were absolutely delicious. They were just as good as the ones I had in Belgium. They came with fries and delicious bread. I also had a salad to start, but it ended up not being necessary. I sat outside on the deck and really enjoyed my meal. I will definitely be going back.
We used to frequent Tapenade regularly and decided to give the New Well Tavern a try. It was a last-minute reservation on a pleasant Sunday evening and we were pleasantly surprised by the menu. There were plenty of options to suit everyone's taste. The beet salad was generous and packed with beets, while my husband's arugula salad was also hearty and delicious. We started with the prawns, which were tasty. Opting for a lighter meal, we also ordered the poutine, which was good, and the escargot, which was also tasty. We hope to see some more variety in the main meal options in the future, as we are not fans of fried chicken. We look forward to returning and trying the dinner menu next time, especially for more seafood options.
The swordfish was tough and dry, while the mussels were small. However, the server was very friendly.
We were recently in Steveston to walk Garry Point, and we are so lucky to have come across New Well Tavern. The patio seemed delightful (minus the uneven planters). It seemed a great venue to take in the sun, enjoy people watching while having a great meal with friends. Our server, Brianne was prompt and attentive to provide the best service I've had in a long time. She was quick to greet us and never kept us waiting for anything. She always had a smile to go with her upbeat personality. When we asked of menu items she was confident in sharing an excellent description of what would be received. The crab cakes are to die for---again the best I've had anywhere. The beet salad was so fresh and delicious. Mussels, yum! And finally the smothered Johnny wasn't overly smothered in gravy-just the right amount. The wine selections were good; yet unbelievable pricing--- Super affordable. Again, our thanks to Brianne for her unforgettable service! We'll come back just for you!
