Out of the countless mid-high tier/priced Japanese restaurants in Richmond, this one is my preferred choice. It’s still pricey if you get drinks, but sometimes you gotta treat yourself. Engawa is a must get. Their skewers are cooked nicely. Servers were friendly and checks up on you regularly. The food comes quickly. Food was extremely average for the price.I enjoyed the sukiyaki and the sashimi was ok but everything else was a miss. The saba oshi was a major disappointment; the rice was mushy and the saba was extremely dry. As for the tempura, you can tell from the photo that the batter is not good and also the sweet potato was a little undercooked. The service was disappointing considering the price range. The sashimi lacked freshness, and I won't be returning. Additionally, the seating was uncomfortable.
The restaurant is overpriced for what you get. Overall, it didn't stand out in any way. While the menu offered some unique dishes compared to other places, I wasn't particularly impressed with the food. We ended up spending over $200 for four people and still left feeling unsatisfied. There are definitely better Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, so I would recommend spending your money elsewhere in the city.

The food and service were amazing! You definitely need to try their fantastic sake selection. I will be coming back often!
The restaurant provides a perfect mix of umami flavors, freshness, and skilled preparation. The quality is always outstanding.
