What Maurice Rousset doesn't like about Kozy Korner:
Would leave zero stars of possible. The bartender (dawn) closes the bar whenever she feels ready even if there's people drinking, gambling, and playing the jute box so she can go somewhere else and drink. Happened 3 nights in a row when we were there for Memorial day weekend.. Two days of that being Friday and Saturday. Friday was closed at 9:30 and Saturday at 10:40. I don't know who the owner is but I can't imagine... View all feedback.
What a great little place! Although they no longer have the all you can eat fish fry, their menu is great and their fish fry is still a bargain. The ambiance of this place is like the home bar with the expanded restaurant. Now, on to the food. We went for the fish fry. You have your choice of haddock or walleye for the fish. It comes with fries, and a side of coleslaw and potato salad. Now keep in mind at I am only visiting here from Oregon, and Oregonians love fish so it was a nice treat to try some local fare. For those that read my reviews you will recall that I don't eat seafood due to allergies....but my partner gave the fish a go and was duly impressed. I had the chicken Parmesan which was beyond awesome! The service was impeccable for our group. I know that most locals will read this and they are already familiar with this place so I was a little surprised to not find a review here on yelp. One small issue was that a bug was deep fried in with an order of fries, but based on the weather locally, it isn't surprising, and the staff handled it very nicely. So when in West Rhinelander, and you want a great meal at a decent price, try the Lurv's Kozy Korner.
Visiting family in the Wisconsin Northwoods always poses a slight dining challenge for this California girl, but we checked out Lurv's Kozy Korner in Rhinelander and were pleasantly surprised at this little gem on the outskirts of town. The four of us arrived about 7p on a Sunday night. We were encouraged to see the parking lot was full. As is typical at many establishments in northern Wisconsin, the restaurant is part bar/part restaurant, but thankfully Wisconsin passed a law that took effect in July 2010 prohibiting smoking in any public places. NO SMOKE : We walked through the bar and past this gorgeous 30's art deco bar back. The bar, by the way, was a solid gorgeous piece of wood...shiny and probably 6 thick with a rough bark edge. Beautiful. We sat in the furthest back room that was probably a build on to the original bar. The room had windows on all sides, allowing for a cool breeze on what otherwise had been a relatively warm day. It was Sunday so three of us ordered the Sunday special: broasted 1/2 chicken, dumplings, potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, cranberry, rolls and green beans for $9.99. It was more than any one person could eat at a single sitting, but it was very good...........even my mom liked the dumplings and she's a tough one to please! My only complaint was the green beans which were likely from a can. We brought home the extras and will be making soup.........yum. My partner ordered the patty melt and loved it. And he, like Mom, has high standards. Thanks, Lurv's Kozy Korner. We're happy to find a great place for food when visiting the Northwoods of Wisconsin!
A supper clubs supper club! Everyone there is extremely helpful and the food is like mom used to make. Drinks are reasonable free pour), the prime rib which is served every evening is out of this world. Had the tenderloin last time I was there and it was better than the White Stag north and a whole lot less . Never had a bad experience there in the 6 years I've been going there.
Pretty solid NorthWoods fare including fish, sandwiches and prime rib. (The prime rib is in the low $20s, and is good, not great--which is what I expect at that price. The grilled pork chop special was slightly above average. The broasted chicken is excellent: juicy, tasty and served piping hot. I seem to remember a great special on the chicken on Sundays but this last visit (April 2014 I saw no mention of the chicken special on the menu. (Possibly they only post it on the board on Sundays now. For your potato choice try the Jo Jo 's if they are still available. Hard to describe what they are, but they taste great! The kids loved the French onion soup with melted cheese. The bar area is very nice and the solid wood bar (mentioned in Patti W 's review looks great and gives a nice Up North feel. The bartender was business-pleasant, but didn 't give off a strong glad you 're here vibe, which is sort of nice when you 're in a small, Up North supper club. Our food server was great.
