We went to the wedding day dinner and it was FANTASTIC! We have the Secret Menu with the wine pairing. Every single course was DELICIOUS and perfectly prepared. They knew it was our anniversary, so they brought out free champaigns. The ambience was intimate, but alive, and the employees and servers were attentive and on point. I highly recommend it! Not sure how Matarkjallarinn fell under our radar during our search for top restaurants in Reykjavík but we’re glad we went to Matarkjallarinn. For lunch, we ordered the beef carpaccio and fish soup to start and for our mains, we ordered the duck leg confit and the fish of the day (plaice). Finally, we concluded our meal with their dessert (chocolate lion bar). The carpaccio and the fish soup were good. The fish soup in particular, was creamy and savoury. The duck confit was beautifully moist and tender. More importantly, the flavours and presentation of everything was top-notch. I was a huge fan of the plaice too which was rich with umami flavours and had lovely crispy textures from the kale and the fish’s skin. To top it all off, the chocolate lion bar was silky and sweet and the contrasting sorbet was remarkable. We’re really happy with our experience at Matarkjallarinn and we’d definitely go back here for dinner!
We had a nice evening here a few days after Christmas. The atmosphere of the place is beautiful, and the waiters and employees are helpful and very professional. You have menus and individual dishes that are all innovative, attractive and absolutely delicious. There was a whole menu of Gin and Tonic to try (Mine had star anise and an orange peel as a shrimp). A great place to experience a first-class Icelandic cuisine in a wonderful environment. Very recommended!
