The atmosphere was so peaceful and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful : Did I mention the pancake soup, it's a must...try : Great coffee and cake too. The whole experience was amazing. The world needs more cafe houses like this one

Stacks of magaz... read more We ducked out of the cold into this charming cafe on an island on Lake Constance while waiting for the hourly bus to the train back to Konstanz. Stacks of magazines and children's books flanked comfortable sofas at the entrance. Around the bend, a compact...display case nestled small plates of temptinglooking foods that belied the cafe's extensive menu which was posted above. While waiting for our order, we were surprised to see the Cafe's nice collection of historic photos. My superb Flädlesuppe, a clear broth with strips of thin pancake, was brought to the table piping hot in a small bowl. My husband had delicious apple cake and cappuccino. The area we sat in was stacked with books in several languages, mainly German but also English and Dutch. The Chilean owner told us there were around They had all been gifts from visitors and guests were free to read there or borrow them on promise to return. There were also newspapers, a chess board and other reasons to linger but we had to get back
