What Beryl Abernathy doesn't like about Fish Cafe:
We've been to Barramundi Boys quite a bit during visits to Manly and it's generally been pretty good. They do good coffee and there's some convenient casual seating. But on this occasion we were after takeaway fish n chips on a quiet, rainy Monday night. So no waiting, but 'crumbed cod' proved to be a poor choice. Reckon it was crumbed in advance and sitting in the fridge ready for a deep fry. It was dry and the fish... View all feedback.
A quality seafood restaurant at the front that's attractive and relaxed- not too bright; or fish and chips out back that you can eat at varnished street benches or under the covered garden outback, with a wine or beer; there's a refreshing breeze from the water - particularly in the evening - and hundreds of berthed yachts across the road to gaze at, night and day. Perfect. I've been visiting the Barramundi Boys Fish Café in Manly, Brisbane for two and a half years - ever since I headed out there with the thought of buying a house beside the beach- but there isn't a beach! So I made do with a good seafood meal and the choice is wide and very good indeed and I keep going back. I've dined in the restaurant, but unless you're taking someone there, as my good mate Yannis did recently, the fish and chips at a heavy wooden bench by the street does just fine. All the fish you'd expect in Brisbane is available and served well and at a fair price, plus sea scallops of course, prawns and potato cakes - which Queenslanders call potato scallops. And chips. House wine doesn't excite, but go up a level or two in price and you'll be happy. Boag's Premium for beer. Yannis reported that he found the barramundi in the restaurant exceptional but he and his business associate were disappointed the oysters weren't freshly shucked- Australians must demand this throughout the Nation, it makes the world of difference. Freshly shucked oysters, please! Yannis was however was very happy with the honesty, professionalism and good spirit of the waitresses, including the identical twins. It's an interesting little "village" Manly, Brisbane, and after lunch by myself recently, I wandered across the road and found the Mad Hatter's Bookshop and was pleasantly surprised, having gone in expecting to find the droll and predictable stuff the social engineering movements of Australia who hijacked publishing push on us, to find a new copy of the 1982 work by Haruki Murakami, called A Wild Sheep Chase, opened it and was amused by the line about a waiter presenting a bottle at a table like it was a photo of his only son. I bought the book, was delighted, and after I returned days later for another pleasing lunch at the Barra Boys, walked back to the Mad Hatter's Bookshop and bought a copy of a Patricia Highsmith novel. Also pleasing. Manly, Brisbane looks after me, I might go back to the Barramundi boys again tonight: straight over the Story Bridge, turn left and 25ks later, you're there. Fun. JD
Great service. The staff were very friendly. Beautiful meals presented extremely well. Very pleasant atmosphere with nice views.
Great Fish & Chips, great location, friendly staff & value for money. Located near Manly esplanade in Cambridge Street. Best Fish & Chips so far in Brisbane area.
Recently called in for a quick dinner, the service was outstanding but the fish was on the dry side. Probably worth a second visit, location is perfect.
Started with the trio of dips of which all are made in house. The lentil dip and dukkah made a great combo. Moved on to mains of which the Coconut Prawn bisque was divine. Plenty of seafood in the soup and some beautiful chargrilled prawnies on top. Served with perfectly toasted Turkish bread allowing for the dips to be demolished. My husband enjoyed the sandcrab linguini which was lovely and fresh with plenty of crab meat. The kiddies enjoyed their kids meals of which the quantity was just right. The perfectly cooked fat chips and aioli were enjoyed and the serving was generous leaving some sad chippies behind. The service was very attentive and friendly and all food and drinks were served in a very timely manner. Thank you Fish Cafe Food
