Mixed but promising reviews: great portions, tasty seafood and friendly service at The Hatch Gate Inn, offset by occasional service lapses, menu confusion and dated decor.

This pub is decent for what it is, but not anything extraordinary. I decided to give it a try after hearing about their award, but I was left disappointed as I feel like my usual Indian place is better. The portion sizes were impressive, but the flavors were just average. In my opinion, Everest Tandoori in Medway is superior. I only wanted to see what all the hype was about, so I would rate it 3 out of 5.

The food and service at this restaurant were outstanding. They have two menus available - one with English dishes and one with Indian dishes. I decided to try the shrimp from the Indian menu and the lamb from the English menu, both of which were excellent.

Our Mother's Day lunch at this restaurant was fantastic. The staff was very attentive and went out of their way to make sure we had an excellent time. We will definitely come back again in the future.

The restaurant is poorly maintained and neglected. The service was inconsistent and not up to par, with worn-out furniture and confusing menus. Despite these drawbacks, the Indian menu and food were of high quality. If you can overlook the issues mentioned, the food is worth trying. However, I would not make a special trip to dine there unless improvements are made.

My main issue with this restaurant was the menu confusion. Despite the website indicating a choice between English and Indian cuisine, we were only offered the Indian menu upon arrival. I ordered the lamb rogan josh, which was decent but a bit bland. The mashed potatoes were a nice addition. My girlfriend's chicken korma was overcooked and lacked enough sauce, in our opinion. We were offered a complimentary drink, but declined as we wanted to leave due to the chilly room. Overall, we found the experience disappointing.

Look out for eclectic menu details: alongside curries and pub classics you may spot regional treats like parkin and curious tags such as 'speisekarte' on materials — a hint that the kitchen likes to play with crossover dishes and unexpected specials. Ask your server about off-menu twists; locals often get recommendations that aren't listed online.
