Swung past here while interviewing in Reading. I had the pasta giardiniera deep fried spinach and parmesan balls, with courgette and chilli over penne....

As ever we had a lovely time at Carluccio's. The staff are terrific. The food is delicious. It is such great value and we keep coming back.
I ordered the Chicken Milanese, which was supposed to come with a side of tomatoes and salad. However, I was served a tough piece of plain breaded chicken that resembled something you would find in the supermarket freezer section. The dish only included one tomato, cut in half, and the side salad consisted of rocket leaves with large chunks of cheese. This type of meal is what I would expect from a budget pub chain at a much lower price, not from an Italian restaurant charging £15. The atmosphere was unpleasant, with very few customers and bright white lights, creating a cafeteria-like feel (even though it was only 8pm). On a positive note, the waitress provided excellent service. It was disappointing to see how the quality of the food and atmosphere has declined since our previous visit in 2021/2022.
