Reviews - Sol Azteca
Reviews summary
Sol Azetca offers a mixed experience for diners, with some praising their delicious fajitas, quick service, and friendly staff, while others criticize the tasteless food, lack of cleanliness, and a decline in quality compared to previous ownership. Some diners highlight the standout dishes like queso and fajitas, while others express disappointment with the lackluster beans and rice. Despite differing opinions, Sol Azteca seems to maintain a loyal customer base with affordable prices and a range of traditional Mexican dishes.

I thought this place was really excellent! We stumbled upon it while making a random stop on our way to Chicago, and after craving some Mexican food, we decided to give it a try. View all feedback.
What Paxton Haag dislikes about Sol Azteca:
We arrived for lunch just 30 minutes after the restaurant opened. Unfortunately, the beans were runny and lacking flavor, and the rice had the color of Spanish rice but was completely tasteless. View all feedback.

Pick up Order.... Great food but beware of mistakes when calling in order for pick up. Ordered 4 dinners and received 5 and only one dinner was correct item ordered. Will still go again but will ordered there in restaurant.
My wife and I recently visited Rantoul and opted for Mexican food for dinner. We chose Sol Azteca based on its excellent ratings, and I'm glad we did. The food and drinks were outstanding, with generous portions that exceeded our expectations. It honestly felt like the recipes came straight from someone's aunt or grandmother because the flavors were that amazing. Coming from the Chicago metro area, where Mexican restaurants are abundant, we truly wish a Sol Azteca existed near us—it’s that good! If you're a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine, you won’t be disappointed. And a tip: go for the small or medium Margarita; the large one is gigantic!
I absolutely love the food and the staff here! We visit almost every week, and the staff always takes excellent care of us. We've never had a bad meal. The fajita nachos are perfect for sharing as a meal for two. I also really enjoy the jumbo margaritas—they're my favorite!

We are here for lunch 30 mins after opening. Beans are runny and tasteless and rice is Spanish-rice colored yet totally tasteless. Service however, was amazingly quick and I have always loved their salsa. Server doing an AWESOME job taking care of us!! Enchilada and soft taco were good.
I've been coming here since it opened, and never had a bad meal. The service is friendly. I'm surprised anyone gave Sol Azteca 1 star. The place is always clean, the menu is standard Midwestern Mexican food, the prices are good; Lunch Fajitas are $7.50, and very filling. Overall, a 3.5 star rounded up to 4 stars to counteract those ridiculous 1 star reviews.
Margaritas , yum , steak , chicken and chorizo , all good , oh and the margaritas. Real traditional Mexican food , Ben there for years and will for years to come
Still no liquor served after several months. Food was horrible. This place needs a good cleaning. Won't be back. Very sad after coming here several times and enjoyed the food. Service is still good. They have forgotten to focus on the food. And why did they lose their liquor permit???
We dined here for lunch. The service was lightning fast and very cheerful. The chips are hot and the salsa is flavorful and of the puréed (not chunky) kind. We had chicken fajitas and chicken Jalisco (spicy strips of breast covered with cheese sauce) and a chile relleno. The cheese sauce was outstanding, the chicken hot and fresh and cooked to order. The rice and beans were pedestrian, about what you'd expect. The guacamole was fresh and hot--it had jalapeños. The bright orange decor was super cheerful on this cold winter day. A nice effort from this place that has been here for 18 years (early years as Casa de Fiesta)
