What Jacinto Bechtelar doesn't like about Restaurant Chez Mai:
Dinner with friends in a small living room. very good kitchen, but very, very noisy and fully overflowed staff. We received our main dish and desserts only after knowing politely the server we had been waiting for for a very long time. He told us that it was cooking time and that if we didn't want our meal anymore, he could eat it because he was hungry...When surprised we told him that we wanted to eat, he dropped a... It was ok the service was nice the food was fine they have a bit more choice then other place for lunch. we always love their roles and with many dish you dont have one,
I had a very nice experience here. Came in at 11am on a Monday and ordered the grilled chicken with sautéed veggies (served on a bed of crispy noodles) from the lunch menu. It was truly wonderful. The chicken was tender and had the perfect amount of char on it.....not dry at all. The sauce was heavenly and I found myself spooning the very last drop of it. Portion was ample too. Served with a tasty vegetable noodle soup and dessert. I highly recommend the fried banana with a scoop of ice cream. Just a wonderful meal at a reasonable price. Service was gracious and prompt. I give it four stars simply because the interior décor could use an upgrade. In sum, I would definitely visit again
It took about 20 minutes for someone to come take our order. It was busy so service was slow but that was fine. I got my entrée of butterfly shrimp and we waited and waited for my friend 's entrée soup which never came. About 20 minutes after I had gotten my shrimp I got up to go find a waiter to ask about my friend 's soup which arrived about 10 minutes after that. My shrimp had been deep fried without being peeled so I got a mouth full of shell?!! Quite gross. The main courses came after we had been there for well over an hour, they were both okay. By the time we were finished eating the entire restaurant was empty and no one ever came by to bring us our cheques... So we went to the front counter where we paid. Also there was a giant spider (not their fault) that my friend squished in a kleenex and when he couldn 't find a garbage one of the waitresses told him to just throw it on the floor or another table. I 'm not even joking. 0/10 for service and about 4/10 for food.
If you speak English, stay away. We waited an hour and five minutes for our food to arrive, while everyone around us, including those who arrived a half hour after us, were served, and some had finished before we were served. What was served, moreover, was wrong. My wife ordered a large soup #8) and for some reason was brought an imperial role. When her soup finally came, it had two small pieces of shrimp and a fake crab stick, and rice noodles. Awful. I ordered the Table d'Hôte. I never received the wanton soup that is supposed to come with it, nor the dessert. The fruit de mere was what one might expect at a fast food restaurant. Not at all authentic Vietnamese. I asked at the end, after paying for the whole thing, to speak to the manager. He did not apologize for the long delay, but instead said that they were serving 200 people. I pointed out that every table around us had guests who came after us and received their food long before us. He then merely repeated what he had said. I am usually quite tolerant of problems at restaurants, and enjoy writing good reviews. This restaurant was, unfortunately, a nightmare. Oh, it started raining, too, and the canopy over the outside patio leaked onto our table. The waiters came out ten minutes later to move tables. As for the BYOB, you will have to drink from a bottle for the first 20 minutes, before they bring out some glasses. STAY VERY VERY FAR AWAY.
