The staff, though busy, are efficient and have a great sense of humour. The salmon puff pastry is a must-try, along with the delicious coffee and pastries at the quaint cafe nearby. Consistent service and fantastic food make for a memorable dining experience in this fortress city. A great place for a relaxed French breakfast or gourmet meal at reasonable prices. Recommended for a delightful gastronomic adventure.
Having been in QC for a month now, I have tried a lot of croissants and other pastries. Often they’re not worth the calories. But here, at Chez Boulay Comptoir Boréal, the pastries, sandwiches and quiches are worth it. And I love it that each day there are different items because this place, like its famous restaurant sibling, is all about seasonal/native foods – which I love. Note: It is “emporter” (takeaway) only and only open four days a week (Thursday through Sunday) but I would go out of my way to buy items from here!
I would give this bakery 4 stars because their selection was limited, but the items we tried were fantastic. The maple custard cream puff and cranberry cheesecake were both delicious. The espresso could be a bit stronger, but overall a great experience. Definitely worth a visit!
This meal was truly exceptional. The cocktails were fantastic, the wine list was excellent, and the food made innovative use of local and seasonal ingredients. I especially loved the sea buckthorn pie.
Outstanding food! I had the raw scallops to start which were not only fresh and delicious but a much bigger portion than any scallop starter at a fine dining restaurant (and I've had a few). My main was the arctic char with wild rice which was also very good, and was tasty whilst also seeming reasonably healthy! I also had a very nice glass of local Quebecois sparkling wine. The service was very friendly.
This counter pastry place is fantastic! The food was delicious and the decorations were beautiful. The only downside is that when someone opens the doors and it's -10 degrees outside, the cold draft hits you no matter where you are sitting. They should really do something about that. I especially enjoyed the pork belly and the salad.
