But... read more After ten months living in Quarante, I've finally visited Bar Le 40. Friends and I shared lunch. No ambiance to speak of it's a local sports bar, after all. But on this particular Friday, most of the tables were filled. Maybe 30 covers in all. The 12 Euro menu was ample. Appetizer, main, and coffee or dessert. An extra Euro bought us a liter of bag in a box wine. Our choices for appetizer were a small charcuterie plate or a salad with a wedge of a simple cheese tarte. For our mains, the choice was bass or bifteck, spinach or frites on the side. Several choices for dessert. We all opted for a sort of creme brulee, a shallow dish of custard with a caramelized top. It was simple, unpretentious, unimaginative. hearty fare. Like I said, bar food. But it works if you're not too fussy and the price is right. They say that the confit de canard is excellent. We'll try it for dinner one day.
