What sunset299 doesn't like about The Bar And Restaurant:
We had made a reservation for dinner on our final night of vacation in North Wales at this restaurant, despite hearing some negative reviews. Upon arrival, we were asked if we were the reservation and were led inside, where we were the only customers. Our table was not even set up for the number of people in our group. We opted to just have a drink while deciding whether to eat. The menus we were given were dirty and... View all feedback.
We were struggling to find a bar to have a drink and take the dog in Pwllheli, they do not appear to be so dog friendly there as they are in Porthmadog and Abersoch! We had driven past Whitehall and saw the board outside saying dogs were welcome and parked up. Hubby went inside and I then realised the board was for the pub next door so called him and we went there instead. Orla (the owner) greeted us warmly and advised it’s table service only so we sat in the beer garden and ordered some drinks. We shared with Orla the struggle to find somewhere open on a Monday and then also allowing dogs. Orla came over and told us they weren’t usually open until later in the week but as the weather was nice, thought they’d open up and see if people were about. Orla chatted with us about the area, where to go and where to avoid, she was a real fountain of knowledge and even wrote it all down for us. We’re not sure on the food experience as we didn’t eat, but please ignore the negativity in the previous review as it seems mainly based on character of the owners and to be honest, the owners were so hospitable and warm with us, I don’t get how their experience was so vastly different to ours! Orla is from Cork and has lived in Wales for many many years, go see her if you want some true advice on the area, she’ll definitely help you! Thank Orla!

We were a rowdy group of 11 women on a hen do weekend who had walked out of a different restaurant because it was very uncomfortable. However in doing so, we stumbled across this place where we spent the afternoon in the sun, with excellent drinks service, and even complimentary chips to line our stomachs : Orla was amazing and the few hours we spent here truly made our day so thank you!!
We were looking for a dog-friendly place to eat in the evening and spotted this on TripAdvisor. Not far from the centre of Pwllheli, it is tucked in a courtyard next to another restaurant. Staff were super-friendly, refreshing Bavarian beer on tap at the time of our visit, and the food was home-made and tasty. They were very dog friendly and offered a bowl of water straight away. Several other dogs (with their chauffeurs) while we were there.
We wanted to eat in the Whitehall next door but it was packed so we ended up being coerced into trying this place. The lady was standing outside practically begging us to come in (not sure why we did, I think we felt sorry for her as she was talking about how so many local restaurants had closed since the pandemic). I should’ve listened to my gut but didn’t. The whole experience was shoddy. There were six of us in total four adults and two kids and it was our last night in Pwllheli so I wanted to treat my family to a nice meal. We ordered four lasagnes two with chips and two with jacket potatoes and a child’s fish fingers with a jacket potato. The wooden chair I was sitting on was literally falling apart and I thought it was going to break so I had to swap it for another. They didn’t have any draft beers and forgot my dad’s wine, ten mins later still no wine so I had to remind her. No butter with the three jacket potatoes which were very dry and unpleasant. I requested butter but none came. My mum ate hers but my daughter and I barely touched ours. The service was sloppy, the young girl looked as miserable as hell and dropped my mum’s garlic bread, again we had to remind them to bring her a new one. My husband’s bottled beer was lukewarm, the lasagne was ok but not worth the £12.95 they charged for it which was a complete rip off. If it was half the price I’d understand but at £12.95 a meal it was well overpriced for the quality of the food and sloppy service. What surprised me the most was when I received the bill, they added a £4.50 “supplement” on for the two jacket potatoes that my mum and I had with our lasagnes instead of chips, which was very deceitful! Nowhere in the menu did it state you had to pay extra if you wanted to swap your chips with jacket potato, it said that there was a choice of chips or jacket, no mention of it being £2.25 extra each. I just felt very uncomfortable, like we were being fleeced. I paid the £63.25 for us all but as we walked off we immediately regretted the experience and wished we’d gone to Wetherspoons as it put a dampener on the last day of our holiday. Please AVOID this place if you don’t want to be ripped off!
