Canoehouse - Puako
Canoehouse
Description
Canoe House on the Big Island pairs dramatic oceanfront sunsets with inventive, locally driven cuisine and polished service, making it a favorite for celebrations and romantic evenings. Cocktails and seafood shine, and attentive staff create memorable, well-paced meals. Expect reservation-needed evenings and premium prices—some find portions small and value mixed. While atmosphere and views impress, there are occasional service lapses (e.g., special requests) and no kama'aina discounts. Ideal for special occasions rather than budget dining.

Feedback
Like many resort restaurants in Hawaii, Canoe House makes a strong effort to promote itself as a unique farm-to-table dining experience. However, I noticed several diners, particularly men, seemed confused by the menu options. My recommendation would be to forgo dinner and instead opt for a few appetizers and a cocktail, enjoy the sunset, and then head somewhere else for your main meal.
Speechless, it was truly fabulous.... Seriously exquisite food (we did the chef's tasting menu— what a lovely way to enjoy food and company) gentle aesthetic atmosphere and a waiter that made us feel like we knew him from somewhere (the whole service team was so good I hesitate to call it service— more like very gracious hosting). If life is good to us, we'll be back. ??
We are thrilled that we chose to treat ourselves at this restaurant—it's undoubtedly the best dinner we've had on the Big Island, and we've been searching! The food was incredibly delicious, the service was knowledgeable and attentive, and the location was absolutely stunning. We also really appreciated the impressive wine list. Highly recommend!
Breathtaking views and bragging rights is what you pay for. $30 for a very bland garden salad (lettuce with Parmesan cheese), very small portion entrees between $60-$100- not worth it. We left hungry. We have been to way better Oceanside restaurants throughout the world. Very pretentious place to eat. Expensive does not mean better here.
We had a wonderful experience dining at Canoe House on a Friday evening. I was with my daughter, her husband and their almost 3 year old daughter. Fine dining with a three year old is challenging, but the staff made us feel welcome and catered to her needs. We asked for a red blend wine to start our dinner and we were told by the waitress they just got some bottles in but it wasn't on the wine list yet. She went out of her way to retrieve a glass for the three of us from a brand new bottle. It was a lovely compliment to the wonderful dinner we had! A nice relaxing evening!
