This restaurant is closing on Sunday, July 3rd so us being new to the area really wanted to try it before it closed. We went on Wednesday, June 29th at 6:00pm and put our name and phone number down to receive a text when table is ready. The hostess informed us that we were #50. Thinking it would be a wait, but not too bad we waited. After 2 and 1/2 hours went by, they said we were #3. After another 20 minutes, the hostess came out and said I'm really sorry but we are closing the restaurant early tonight and cannot accommodate anymore people. You can imagine how upset one can be after waiting almost 3 hours. My husband was ready to give up, but i wanted to try it again and I knew the trick was to be there early. On Friday, we went to the restaurant at 5:10pm and there was already a line! Thankfully when the restaurant opened at 5:30pm we were able to grab a table right away. We spent about 2 hours at the restaurant. The food was very delicious and came out spaced apart. The chef puts a modern spin on typical Asian plates. The staff were very friendly and don't rush you at all. It's unfortunate I won't be able to try this place again.
Well we may have had our last meal here with the chef/owner announcing closing North and Big King this summer (we tried to reserve at Big King immediately after seeing the announcement but they are booked until they close). We have had many pleasant and memorable meals starting with our daughter 's undergrad days at Brown. We arrived on a weeknight when they opened 5:30 PM and they were soon full, a number of people were turned a way as no COVID vaccine card. The place is noisy and bustling. It is clear the staff was overwhelmed although someone was in training. Our drink was a bottle of Drunken Whale sake well priced at $54. Appetizers were a 1/2 dozen N Kingston (RI) oysters superb the 3 ham biscuits, and torched lamb. We split a a bowl of stuffed chicken ramen well flavored. I thought it could have had a bit more chicken but my dining companion said the quality overwhelmed my thought of more quantity. We finished with the miso tres leches cake. Overall, a great meal with damages with tip of $150. Go before it is gone! Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Value 4/5 Cleanliness 5/5 Noise 3/5 (average) Decor 4/5
I am not a foodie. I enjoy good food and great cocktails. I booked a res at North since we were staying at The Dean, and I am not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn 't this! Tiny space, we were seated closer to people than we have been used to in recent years, but that 's all good. The menu is very small, and not clearly delineated between what is apps vs entrees. Our server was phenomenal and explained the apps were on the left, entrees on the right, and served family style. Started with drinks, I got the Brown Derby, which is a bourbon cocktail, husband got the Proclamation citra pale ale. Both fantastic drinks, the bourbon I felt was a very small pour, especially for the price. The beer was excellent, if you like hoppy and citrus flavors. Food: I am not going to lie, I was a bit worried when we first arrived and saw the menu. I thought it was going to all be little frou frou bites and we would have to hit up the pizza place across the street after. I was very, very wrong. (4 adults) We started with a double order of the tiny ham sandwiches, as I had seen mention of those on other reviews that I glanced at. I 'm going to need the recipe for those, and I have to say that they would be the PERFECT late night, post bar food . Absolutely delicious. They look like fluffy biscuits with a spoonful of chopped ham inside, but they taste like the best buttery grilled cheese, with savory ham and mustard. One of my friends commented that the ONLY thing they could think that would make these better would be a dot of wasabi. Good grief, yes, please. We also ordered the oysters and littlenecks, those were good, definetely more oyster people than littlenecks. Super appreciated that they were well prepared and pre loosened from the shell. Fried brussels freaking delicious. Dan Dan Husband loved this, I mostly loved it. I can 't quite put my finger on what I didn 't love, but this dish is one that you need to eat all apiece, with everything from the dish in each bite. I 'm not convinced that the squid added anything to the dish, and the rice things felt out of place. The flavors allllllll together, however...super good. Chicken ramen I think this was collectively our least favorite dish, however, that 's only ranking things out, not that this dish was poor by any stretch. The portion is massive, easily fed the four of us, with leftovers, The noodles were perfectly chewy, not terribly flavorful on their own. The broth was the superstar, rich, with a nice kick. Would have loved more veggies included in this one. Sesame noodles 5 stars. for sure our favorite dish. Spicy, with sweet kicks from the sesame candy. I would 100% order this again. Chicken confit 3 out of 4 of us enjoyed this. Husband thought the chicken was bland, we think he lost his mind. He obviously doesn 't know how hard it can be to perfectly cook a chicken. It wasn 't overly seasoned, but that is because it was nestled in a bed of perfection. The roasted veggies were sweet and savory, and the chicken provided an excellant texture contrast to the melt in your mouth rutabaga and greens. so, so good. Dessert it was husband 's birthday so he chose the miso tres leche cake. Two of the four LOVED it, and devoured every bite. The other two most certainly did NOT enjoy it. If you LOVE coconut, get this. If you do not LOVE coconut, just admire the pretty and enjoy something else. Experience: Our service was EXCELLANT. From start to finish. Timing was perfect, we didn 't wait more than a couple of minutes from sitting down before he was introducing the menu and taking drinks. He kept our table free of clutter and ensured we had everything we needed without us needing to ask for a thing. I very much appreciate having the still water already on the table and replaced mid way. I hate asking for water, and I drink a lot of it. A I did really dislike the seating. Sorry! I 'm a middle aged woman with too much chub and no core muscles. sitting on a bench for two hours is not an easy task. My back hurt so much by the
Enjoyed the spicy sesame noodles Toronto drink. No sugar-free dessert. Calm atmosphere. Convenient location at downtown Providence
The menu is creative and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The staff was friendly and caring to everyone's needs in my party. Kudos to the team and management! A huge plus that they care about their community (as shown by their awesome signange) and their COVID protocols making sure everyone who enters is in a safe space. 10/10
