Shanghai Palace Restaurant - Prospect

Not good experience here. It’s our second time to try this restaurant but we will definitely not come back again. Waited for one hour for two simple dishes and one soup even though there were no other ppl queuing before us. The food here is far more expensive than it supposed to be. The taste is not bad but there are plenty other better choices as an Asian restaurant. Don’t know why the review is so high. We are not happy with the experience here. BTW, it is my first time to write a review. Just feeling so bad right now.

Great Food, the ambiance is nice. The staff is friendly. Try the Sizzling Mongolian beef.

Yeah it was good, but nothing memorable. I ordered the braised chicken with mushrooms and vegetables and it was nice. Just nice. My issue with the meal was that it didn't have much flavour in comparison to other braised chicken with mushroom dishes I have eaten from other Chinese restaurants. I did go with a group of friends and one of them did order the same dish as me, however with no garlic. For that reason, when it came to my order I clearly stated that I love garlic! I do believe however that they probably made our meals in the one wok and so didn't put any garlic in whatsoever. Even though they could just cook her meal first, remove it, and then cook mine with the garlic. Not hard really as the meals all came out at different times anyway. Mine was nice, but a bit bland. I also didn't find a single mushroom in it. The service was nice, bit slow, but the meal sizes were really good. I will give it 3 stars for that, and I will give it another go, as it wasn't disastrous, just needed more flavour in my meal. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals so that is a good sign. It has also been around for 35 years so it must be doing something right!

I think this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in SA. Nothing is too much trouble. Parking nearby or across the road.
