We were greeted warmly and offered three different types of pasta in large bowls and we could thus taste all three varieties. Those not wishing (or unable) to eat pasta could have a substitute.All three pastas, which were homemade, were delicious. This quaint little restaurant, way up in the hills of Abruzzo, was a great place to eat.

I ordered a boring old Spaghetti Bolognaise is was anything but boring. Delicious food in a great atmosphere.

We ordered Carbonara, out came bread, and empty bowls... Hmmm is this a joke... No, outcome a huge bowl of the most delicious carbonara we've ever had! Enough for two decent servings, each! Great place, quirky atmosphere!

It... read more A real centre of the community. Run by a lovely English speaking Italian couple and their family, Bar Ottavio gives a warm welcome to customers of all ages. It is a night- time venue for the young at heart with occasional live music, promotional events, live football on the large screen, music, good food and drink and very friendly local clientele. As English owners of a holiday home in a nearby village, this is one of our very favourite places to visit for lunch and a chat or to introduce friends to a good local bar and perhaps one of the infamous 'big ' (and I mean BIG) burgers from the selection available. We visited for lunch today and there were a good number of local workers taking lunch; always a sign of a good venue. There is always a wide selection of wines, beers, including some British ones, and spirits, particularly whiskeys. The bar has a great atmosphere which is enhanced by some interesting pop and rock memorabilia. If you are in the Pretoro area in Chieti province go out of your way to give it a try. If you are in the area again you will go back. Also, if you are the English speaking owner of a nearby property and still working on your Italian and are in need of assistance, advice or pointing in the right direction you will get it there and probably make some new friends.
