Was Anonym at Maitrea a mag?
I love how the menu clearly marks which food is vegan and what can be made vegan! We got the Thai red curry and goulash, which can be made vegan. Personally (as an American who has never had goulash before) I wasn't the biggest fan of the goulash, but the portions were filling! Updated from previous review on 2022-09-08 View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Maitrea:
The amount of vegan options is quite limited, but some non vegan dishes can be converted into a vegan version. The goulash for example comes with dumplings, which are replaced by potatoes if you go for the vegan version. I was there twice and would classify the food as average and I'm not aiming for another visit. There are in my opinion better places in the centre of Prague. Love the food at this place! The food is so tasty and full of flavour, the atmosphere is cozy and the service is on high level, you should not miss it if you are in Prague. We tried the pie soup, the spinach pancakes and the healty bowl. Loved all of them.
Lovely vegetarian restaurant with very kind service personnel and interesting tasty meals. I had a vegetarian goulash which traditionally is not a Czech but Hungarian meal but regardless of its origin, it tasted amazing and very similar to its meaty original, which I found quite impressive. Maitrea has a large but not an overwhelming amount of dishes on the menu and I’d love to try them all. If you’re vegetarian or vegan it is a must go when in Prague!
As vegans we were highly disappointed by the food quality and taste, as well as the service itself. The gluten-free beer tasted off. We ordered the vegan version of the Paella and the Goulash with dumplings. At least we thought we get that...but instead of a Paella (that many people recommended in their reviews) we got a rice-mushroom-tofu mix with a plain taste. Not even the seasoning was in any way reminding of a Paella. For the Goulash that we ordered because we wanted the original Czech dumplings we got it served with plain potatoes instead, since the staff didn't inform us that the dumplings aren't vegan. Directly when the food was served we complaint, but neither the kitchen took it back and let us choose an alternative, not die they compensate us on the final receipt. It was such a disappointment. However, there is a great vegan restaurant on the other side of the river just beneath the city's castle where we found fantastic fresh and delicious vegan food. But Maitrea? Thanks no, not again.
I had dinner here my first time in Prague in 2017. When I saw it was still open, I knew I had to come back. Delicious lunch enjoyed with my mom and boyfriend in a beautiful ambiance. Servers were very nice too!
